Hi

I need to start getting some consistency in my game and want to stop feeling nervous every time I address the ball. I need to come up with a pre shot routine. At the moment all I do Is take a couple of practice swings then hit the ball and watch It go off in all directions!

Got a lesson later on today. Will my instructor be able to come up with one that works for me or Is It something I would have to come up with myself? What do people on here do for a pre-shot routine?

Cheers

I have tried to find one for years but I find them so contrived that they actually stress me rather than relax me. However I have started to make sure that my body is in a position where I feel like I can get back to the ball. My whole focus is feeling and getting into that place where I can physically get in my final position before collision, when and only when I feel like I have my head, left hip and right shoulder where I want them I then think about throwing my club at my start line then go...

Mine needs pulling to pieces and staring again, last year when I was playing well I had a really simple routine of practice swing behind ball, pick target walk into shot and swing.

This year its got to faffy it doesn't take any longer but its just not good. the worse I play the more faffy it gets

Pick a club, pick a line, hit it, sometimes I'll have a practice swing, maybe even 2. More often than not I'll just hit it. Confidence comes from within, not from faffing about behind the ball like you're performing some weird golf ball mating ritual.

Walk up to ball , during the walk survey how ball is lieing and how far , check gps front/middle/back , compute in head where i would like to hit shot , select club and tw@t it

think that about covers it

Like the others, walk up to ball from behind, pick my line. Find a spot 1-3 yards in front and align to that (broken tee, clover, a daisy, brown patch of grass, a divot, whatever) line up, deep breath and relax and drop all tension from my upper body. then unleash hell in a flaling octopus style in the vain hope the ball goes where I wanted, repeat up to (or sometimes over!) 100 times, then get a pint and re-live the story of the good one...

My teaching pro is trying to get me to use one as I seem rushed over the shot and he feels it will add some consistency. The one I used at the lesson feels too long and contrived so currently trying to find something that is brisker (I have a naturally fast tempo) but still gives me time to pause, exhale and then swing

What happened to the glove Velcro trigger? ;)

If you have to 'design' a routine then it's contrived imo. Just do what you do, but be consistent and do it all the time.

For me....

From behind the ball pick a spot a couple of feet in front of the ball on the line I want.
Walk up to ball, line club up with spot just chosen.
Line feet up to club.
Quick check that shoulders and hips are lined up with feet.
Swing.

:thup::thup:

I might add 'get comfortable over the ball' before hitting it, but that's all.

If I'm up at the green I might even add a couple of movements, practice swings or whatever just to get my concious and unconcious agreeing on what we are going to do before doing it - not on full shots.
