Hi all,i get the chance to go up to my golf club most evenings until dark so just wondered if any one had any practice drills tips or advice as at the moment i just play as normal and maybe dont use my time well as the course is empty
thanks

Hi Andy
It sounds like you have the perfect opportunity to try out a few things.
What I tend to do when its really quiet is,
Two balls from the tee,but with different clubs, just to find out how far the balls are travelling.
At this time of year the fairways are hardening up.
2 balls into the green.
Then I will spend a few minutes chipping and putting.
Chipping with different clubs,to get a feel of how far each club gets the ball rolling.
Constructive practice.

I'm virtually the same. I went up the club last night for 9 holes and hit several balls on each hole. Measured the distance into the greens then hit a club for that distance and one either side of that distance, just to check them all out and see how the results differ. How much run each club gives etc and to see what results i get from attacking or playing safe. Two balls of each tee, one drive, one hybrid just to know Ive got a back up for the driver. Then chipping on each green, over bunkers, chip and runs, flop shots etc. Didn't bother putting as that takes another level of concentration. It helps get Sundays bad round out of my system and my game tuned ready for a matchplay game tonight.

I've been spending quite a lot of time in the practice bunker lately. It's certainly starting to help but it's hard when our bunkers are so inconsistent on the course.
I like to go up to the club after work and practice chip and run shots on a few holes when the course is quiet. Normally I go out with a bag of practice balls and a few clubs of various lofts to practice from about 50 yards and in.

I'd play tee shot and perhaps approach shot as normal but play 2 or 3 balls around the green. Practice getting up and down from shoddy lies. Make sure to give yourself shots that you don't feel good at/confident with.

Its probably not strictly allowed Chellie, its OK to hit 2 or 3 at ours but any more are frown on. I got told off for hitting more, even though it was very quiet.

I'd probably not hit more than one ball off the tee, I'm too inconsistent and one would go right and the other left, it would take me longer to collect my balls playing by myself than it would if I was playng in a fourball :), though as mentioned above once within scoring range I would drop a couple balls and practice chipping with two or three different clubs to see what works best for any given situation.

I play 2 balls off the tee then play the worse one and try different clubs than normal of each tee. I have a habit of pulling the driver out on all holes except par 3s but yesterday I took the 3 wood out on 2 of the slightly tighter holes the result Were on the fairway not that far behind where my driver would finish.not supposed to practice on course but at 19.30 hardly a sole playing so doing no harm IMO

Thanks for the ideas i will give them a go and let you no how i got on and also the club manager lets me stay on as late as i want to practice as long as i park outside the gates so he can go when he wants i am literally the only person on the course

I usually stay late chipping.

My fav is drop 5 balls and hit to 5 pins with chips.

4 points for holed out
3 within a putters length
2 within 2 putters lengths
1 within 3 "" ""

I usually score 12-14 with my 52* & 56* and 9-13 with my PW (from slightly further away).

I rarely do games or drills on the range anymore, I prefer to spend my time on the putting green as its much more fun and free!
