Recently did a crossfield-style vid of 4 of us playing a few holes. It was a real eye opener to all of us just what our swings from driver to putter looked like. And not in a good way....

In fact, I was so distressed that I took the ipod along with me for a couple of range sessions and used one of the golf vid apps (ubersense, other apps available...) and worked on getting a swing that looked a bit more like I imagined it always had been. There is a library of pros available for frame by frame scroll though comparisons as well.

I also did a quick half hour on the putting green and even with such a simple, small movement I was taken aback by the difference between me and pretty much any decent golfer.

I'd recommend making the effort (which isn't really that much), as if you are working on any part of the game the camera seems to be rather less impressed than the ego. Any reasons anyone having regular lessons/range sessions and then not using the vid to monitor progress ? Slows down ball consumption too...

(too ashamed to post any of them up tho)

Get the link posted.

:o no!!

If anyone wants to watch hacking, there's plenty out there in real life....

I was surprised have seen it, how far I can hit the ball (not that I am bubba, or even Corey Pavin long). I reckon with a more efficient swing there's an extra 20% in there without any additional physical effort. I'm quite lanky, so I just need to improve coordination to use the long levers more effectively.

Does it matter what your swing looks like if it works?

It doesn't work. That's the point. I'm a 14ish capper with inconsistent ball striking at best. I've had lessons which have identified a nasty takeaway bringing the club behind me (like Homer's 'before' vid on the before/after vids he posted a few weeks back) and an OTT lunge at the start of the downswing.

In my own vivid imagination I thought that I had taken this on board. The steely eye of the ipod revealed that this was very much not the case. Sadly, I am not likely to be able to see a pro once a week to work on the corrections, so a vid at a range session allows me to keep monitoring that what is happening in my mind's eye bears at least some relationship with the actualite.

Notice I didn't say anythignabout it not working :D

Well if you don't want people to see you and your mates swings, I certainly wouldn't upload them to Youtube...

I love videoing the swing at the range. In fact I'm taking one of the kids there tonight to video the take away (not the Indian). My swing is a thing only a mother could love, but I always like looking at the results when I get home...

The other thing (which I had forgotten) was that not only is the swing shocking, but I do a little girlie curtsey at the end of it which no-one had thought it important to tell me about....:o

!!! fixed that, thanks ! (put them up there as was the easiest way for the other guys to see them) Can now add 'youtube privacy settings' to my skillset...

To be honest, they weren't as bad as you are describing. I'd say they were fairly typical of Club Golfers (myself included). Nice idea on the video though. Something for your mates to look at once you put them up...

Yeah, three of us are not too bad. One has only really just started playing this year.

He's based in Spain at the mo, so doesn't get the chance to play with us much, so I thought I'd do the vid for him to give him something to chew on while plotting his path to one shot per hole.

Having muttered a bit when I whipped out the cam on the first, they have all been quite pleased to see themselves. Unlike my range sessions, I'm not sure I can be arsed to fiddle about on course more than a couple of times a year. Might be worth taking along to your pro if you were going to have a series of lessons, as it would give them something better to work on than just seeing you hit a few balls on the range along with your own (probably misguided) view of what takes place on the course.
