Hello, can anyone help me with this query?

During a round at MIlngavie GC, one of my friends drove his tee shot into a hill with heavy rough. We found the ball and as he set himself up and took a practice swing, out came a ball with his practice swing. lol. crazy i kno. But I was just wondering would this be a penalty stroke for him or would this is ignored?

I'm new, so the answer interests me too. I would guess if he hadn't addressed or intended to hit the ball, it would be a penalty.

stupid rules of golf. He didnt even know there was a ball there. This was in heavy heavy rough too. I think it shouldn't be a penalty but I dont know the official rules to this.

Do you mean that as he was taking a practice swing ANOTHER Ball moved not his? If so there is no penalty, unless he moved his own ball in doing this.

Yup it was a different ball that was so embedded that you couldn't see it. His ball didn't move. So that's Ok yeah? Some folk that I spoke to said it's a penalty but I find that quite harsh if it is hence I asked in this forum.
