Nervous to ask this question in fear of setting of another argument but I have always wondered what is acceptable on the practice Ground.

I prefer to practice on grass so like to hit balls at the practice ground or use the short game area. This is well away from the clubhouse in the middle of the course. I have always complied with on course rules and worn full golf attire. I always have balls, a couple of clubs and shoes in the car so would be tempted at times to hit some balls in whatever I am wearing when I pass the club. So, is it acceptable to wear more casual gear to practice or is it full attire only.

at ours the practise areas arent part of the course and hence the course dress code doesnt apply so pretty much anything applies. That said on the grass areas dont think Ive ever seen anyone not in golf shoes (but have seen them in jeans)

I like to go to the range early before work as its the only time I can.

Not many about at that time but im sure if anyone saw me they'd be leaving change in my cap!

Im normally unwashed, unshaven, in old golf shoes with holes in, trouser that are covered in mud from me wiping my club on the leg and a very very worn top.

I would probably have a rethink if attending the range mid day on a Saturday!

If the practice ground is part of the club & within the grounds of the course/club then I'd think that you need to adhere to the dress code. Away from the club and at a driving range etc then it's whatever rocks your boat.

Agree with this, especially for my course.

Practice area is right behind both 9th and second greens. Very much a part of the course so clubs dress code applies in our case.

I would seek clarification from your club Greg.

Part of the club so same dress rules apply for both areas in my club- as it should be:thup:

I disagree, if you have a range/practice area at your course why should you have to wear full golf attire just to practice?

Yes if you are on the course playing but in a practice area it shouldn't matter.

Standards!

I'd say just about anything goes at a driving range.

If I'm at the practice ground at the club, sometimes I'll be in jeans (if it's an opportunist session) but most of the time I'll be in golf gear. Not because I think that's what everyone should do, or because it's the dress code (I'm not clear on whether it applies, to be honest), but just because I'm more comfortable hitting balls in golf gear.

Have worn cargo pants, work site trousers, long shorts, track suit bottoms with trainers, golf shoes, football shirt .... so pretty much everything. Not had any issues on the driving range ... on the practise holes would be different though.

Our practice ground is part of the club and we are expected to adhere to club dress codes. On a normal driving range anything goes but I still prefer to wear golfing attire. I just feel more comfy

The problem at our club is the range isn't part of the course but the short game area is just left of the 8th fairway and the putting green is behind the 18th green and infront of the clubhouse.

So if i go to the range and then fancy some shortgame/putting practice do i have to change into my golf shoes/trousers etc just to do this?
