Wow - played this morning and just shot my Personal Best - 69 Gross around Brancepeth Castle (1 under par)
My handicap went up to 10(9.5) 2 weeks ago and I decided to quit the comps and focus on practice (you may of remembered my rant on a thread) - I was frustrated about not performing to how I should be.

So I'm had a lesson, worked on a few drills - had a couple of friendly knocks and focused on the process of my swing and getting in the right positions.
Shot a 78 last night in KO match (lost on the 2nd extra hole) - So I thought screw it I'm going to give a supplementary score a go as I can't enter a comp until the 10th of June (time restraints). Rocked up this morning, warm up in the net, declare my intentions and the rest is history! 2 over on the front 3 under on back!

could not believe it! So happy right now that work is enjoyable haha:D

Smashing job. What was the key to the low scoring during the round? Anything in particular?

And what were the drills you worked on in practice?

I have had a similar thing happen to me. I have tried a simple technique that has me checking my 'set' and hip-turn before every shot - and it seems to have made a huge difference to my striking and scoring - albeit I'm early days.

Off 10 I played our 6 handicapper Handicap Sec in the club scratch KO yesterday and beat him two up with one to play. He reckoned I'd dropped 2 in the 17 we played (including missing 3 or 4 putts all under 4ft) - and that under the old handicap system he'd have been considering cutting me to 6 the way I played (very consistently on all aspects of my game - other than putting). All because of something my assistant pro had told me to do in a lesson about 2 years ago - and I haven't really been putting it into practice. Doh!

I had a problem with a few things really - 1) club position - not coming on plane properly - so through impact I was lifting the handle, so it lead to hosel rockets 2) lunging by body forward 3) tempo

So I've been working on 1 drill only - chippy 5 irons and 7 irons - taking the club up to half way and coming through - working on keep my body in position and swing on plane. This has really helped with my tempo as well.

Its work so well today - I've put it in my pre-shot routine - I've lost 5/6 yards but today I lost 10 shots! haha I know which I'd rather have.

Congrats! Interested in knowing how the supplementary round situation works, I have had a nightmare in comps recently, is this rule only in place for people who can't play in comps, or can i use it as an option to submit another couple of cards?

in england anyone cat 2 and above can submit upto 10 supplementary cards in a year, just have to declare you are doing so in advance then it gets treated as a comp card against SSS. rules are stricter on cat 1 where i think you are allowed to use it just to keep your handicap competitive (tho this may have been updated)

You can put a supplementary score in whenever you like. You declare your intention to do so and the card must be handed in. You can enter up to 10 supplementary scores a year. I decided to do it today because I can't play comp until mid june with other commitments and I thought I was playing well and I could get back down to single figures (didn't expect a 69 though).

Interesting! I dislike the Medal format but know I am capable - might help, might be the same! Fair play on a 69 gross though!

You can do it as stableford as well - if that helps with your mentality - its practically the same anyways.
I think you can post a 9 hole score card as well - then the computer just adds 18 points for the other 9 - not completely sure on that one though.
