My first time out on 18 holes in a couple of months, and playing with a society.

Two nightmare holes (hacked out of the rough for 3 shots, and a double water-hazard misshit), dropping 8 shots on 2 holes, for +14.

Played off 10.
Scored 36 points.

Hitting the ball really well, just a little sloppy around some greens.

A little more practice on the course and I expect to be well inside single figures.

I wondered where you got to,you must have been up the range.
Well done on your round,of course real golf is a medal round,so cut out those 7+8s.
What injury did you have?

PJ - was out with a back strain. All was going well then just felt something seize. It was the erector spinae muscle (close to the spine). Spent three weeks out and the last two weeks returning.

Totally agree about medal play - it's the only true measure.

Apologies but if you were playing off 10 and you were 14 over, how is that 36 points??

A couple of bad blobs but a few 3 pointers to make up the points but not the total...?

Surely though, 14 over is 4 over your handicap so you have 32 points....regardless of the number of three pointers you have.

Or am I missing something??

Well, if he shot a 9 on a par 4 twice, for example, that would be 2 blobs and +10 on the total. If he then had 4 x 3 pointers he would get the 4 points back but it wouldn't help with the total score.
It's like the adjustment in Medal - you can still get cut if you score a 10 as it gets rounded down to nett double...

Unless I've had too many Stella's tonight which is perfectly possible.... :D :D

I think you're right.

An extreme example would be a scratch golfer who had 16 pars, an eagle and a 20 on a par 4. 36pts but +14 in a medal.

had that today, scored 38 points with 1 blob, went round in 97 but that was with a 6 on the par 3 2nd and a shocking 11 on the 10th (oob twice ffs)!!!! I had a par 4 on that last week arggggggh, 31 putts tho, must sort out my bloody driving as its killing me off the tee :(

Glad your getting there Tim :)
