Poults story on the BBC

Doesn't seem unreasonable. Some people like to be their own man and feel they have done it their way. Poulter always has seemed like that kind of guy.

The article mentions Schwartzel getting advice from Jack last year but he was playing only his second Masters and in that case seeking advice from Jack was no doubt a good call.

I think if Poulter had hardly played Augusta before it would make sense to talk to someone who has, but it says this is his 7th visit. Also noticed he's 36. Older than I thought. No one is beyond learning something new but I can't really criticise him for feeling he doesn't need a "mentor".

i totally agree with him, its fair enough asking someone for advice but if their completely different to you game wise then wats the point, it may help a bit but it could also mess up ur mind

I reckon he is spot on, lets face it guys in there 30's playing on the tour and qualifying for all the majors don't really need help with course management. Poulter has a top caddie and is as focused as anyone on tour, I hope he does well at Augusta.

definetly not cocky, especially when he said It's all very well asking Jack how to play the course but he's the best player ever to have swung a club. I'm not that player. Jack had certain shots he could pull off that I might not be able to pull off.
(and true too)

Ye thats not cocky I dont think, Its actually quite cocks of Faldo to say it outloud.

The story reflects more on Faldo struggling to come to terms with his own declining influence/relevance. I don't mean that as a dig at him - his achievements are superb, but the fact is golf has changed a lot and the game that Faldo played is different to the way modern guys play.

Plus Poulter witnessed firsthand Faldo's Ryder Cup captaincy, so i'd forgive him for not regarding Faldo as any sort of mentor.

I don't think it's cocky. I wouldn't take a great deal of advice on how to play Augusta from a pro either. They'd be telling me where to lay up and where to put the ball but my game simply is not that good, I'd just enjoy the course and knock the ball (okay, balls as I'd dunk a few in the water I'm sure) around the course the best way I could.

Hes right,play your own game.
He then has no-one to blame but himself.
He has been through a tough patch recently, however he seems to have turned the corner.
This could be the most wide open Masters ever.

I think he's comments are pretty much spot-on. I really like Poulter and I think it's refreshing to actually hear from a sportsman actual answers to questions asked.

I've just read on another article about the Masters that the Beeb have a new roving reporter for the golf. It seems Michael Vaughan, former England cricket captain, is going to be sharing with us his extensive knowledge of the world of professional golf.
Can he be as bad as Lineker, only time will tell?

Thank goodness for Sky Sports!

MV is nobodys fool... Don't think he'd be doing the job unless he thought he could deliver...

If it was Tim Henman then I might just be panicing...

A wise person once said
"if i see further than others, it is because i stand on the shoulders of giants"

Nothing wrong with confidence, and notwithstanding that he obviously isnt looking for a technical coach. But to me, if i had access to proven world class winners, i would have jumped at the chance. Surround yourself with winners. You dont have to do EVERYTHING they did or say, but you just allow the "winning" ways to seep in

Preety wise words from Poulter. I actually like the guy. OK he can come across as a big head and a show pony but there are times when he can deliver some top line golf albeit not consistentley enough or at the top level. I don't think Poulter will win a major but it certainly won't be through lack of self belief on his part
