Poulter to be a Ryder Cup hero again this year?

If the Ryder Cup consisted of four rounds of singles, he'd have four points in the bag.
Like him or loathe him, he's a right battler and if I had to rely on one guy to win me a point, it would be him.
He's arrogant, passionate, single minded, and he'll never give up. The perfect qualities required in singles matchplay.

I'm with Smiffy. Poults has proven he is a great match player. It needs a different mindset to grinding out 72 holes in a stroke play event and he has it. He loves the RC and regards his RC record as a measure of his success and status as a player. However well he is playing you know he'll be trying his utmost. Great team man as well.

Just checked his RC record

Overall Record: Played 15, Won 12, Lost 3, Halved 0, Points 12
Series Record:
Singles: Played 4, Won 4, Lost 0, Halved 0
Foursomes: Played 5, Won 4, Lost 1, Halved 0
Fourballs: Played 6, Won 4, Lost 2, Halved 0

Not bad!

I'm a big Poults fan (did the avatar give it away?) - but I do think this year will be more of a team effort. Not saying last year wasn't, but to get 4/5 birdies back to back on the Saturday afternoon to secure a point was pretty epic.

But this year (hopefully) Europe won't need a 'hero' to win a vital point or two!!

After Medinah Poults became a legend.
Imo he will again this year rise to the occasion, maybe not as much as Medinah because
I believe we will win quite easy this year.
I just wish he could take his Ryder cup attitude into a major and win one.
He has had a couple of good final rounds but hes always been to far behind.
Great record above.

Just put £5 on him at 12/1 being top scorer. So yeah, I reckon he's got it in him. As has been said, like it or loathe it, his attitude is a great one for matchplay.

Team game

Interesting view.

I would say a sport like rugby or football is a team game, where the various players all combine for the one try, or goal.

In golf, although it is played in teams, each player/paid is responsible for winning their own point. And it is only the accumulation of the points that decide the winner. More like the penalty shootout part of football.

So it's kind of team game, but not as we normally describe team games
