It appears his replacement driver didn't arrive in time after the last one was nicked, so he pulled out.

What, he only has one driver?

Cobra can't replace it?

He can't play with anything else?

Apparently, if he plays, and plays badly, he will lose out on world ranking points.

Not hugely impressed by this. He should be able to play with another driver, and just get on with it. I also don't understand how you can get more points by not playing than by playing badly.

Poulter makes it so hard for us to like him. He said in the press on Monday that he had THREE drivers with the other TWO being in USA and Europe so I think he has just taken the huff with the European Tour because he blames THEM for some swine swiping his club.

I cannot believe that it is impossible to get a replacement sorted out even if it meant using another make and model in the practice rounds. I'm not sure how you can gain on the world points ranking by not playing.

Sadly it's another 'throw the toys out' moment from Mr Poulter.

I guarantee that if he'd have had his driver with him for round one and then subsequently damaged it (or "lost" it) a replacement would have miraculously appeared in his bag for round 2.

If the story is true that it was stolen do Cobra not have the ability to courier one in in less than 24 hours. Of course they do.

Grow up Mr Poulter and stop behaving like a 5 year old who's had his lollypop stolen !!

DHM.

He seems to be a little forgetful if his clubs are left lying about all over the place, next time you are out playing guys and you come across a stray club, hurry up and hand it in as it may be a poulter! lol

Any tour pro should be able to take any driver and apply a reasonable standard of play with it, if not he has a 3 wood and long irons.

I think its wrong for him to do this sort of sillyness, he has just raised his profile in recent times only to lower it with petulant behavior.

TIGER would play without his driver and still kick ass!! Anyway didnt poulter play without his putter once cos he snapped it ? I was starting to like poults but he is now ruining it for himself

I'd ban him from the next tournament of any meaning as that has to be one of the weakest reasons for withdrawing from a competition.

I agree this does not reflect well on Cobra's ability to service their players. I hope they counter his claim but doubt they will.

Agree it looks bad for Cobra that they could not replace the Driver in sufficient time to allow him play this week.
I know the ranking points are based on a 2 year ycle and points earned now are worth more than those earned two years ago but cant work out how he is protecting his ranking by not playing.

So you battle your way through to the final of the "Lord Brassey Cup" or whatever at your home course and you wake up on the morning of the big game to find that your dog has eaten your driver. Do you....

a) Cry off and hand the match to your opponent
b) Think "That's a bugger, but I'll go out and do the guy without it"

The bloke has got too much money

If he hasn't got another Cobra driver available, maybe his Cobra contract prevents him playing with anything else. I suppose he could walk into any golf shop and get custom fitted for a new Cobra driver :) I guess that's not the done thing for a superstar.

He should just get on with it, he'd have to if he broke his driver during the round, I'm sure he could survive.

I can't stand the fella!

And as for his play in the ryder cup if Oliver Wilson was given the chance to play every game whats to say he wouldn't have come away with the same amount of points! But Faldo(another nonse) was too busy trying to prove a point and not thinking about the team!

Poulter is a disgrace and a coward for pulling out of this comp as a driver could have arrived the next day! I admire his honesty but basically he's just said he's not good enough and this is the same fella who thinks he's world No 2

I thought he did very well in the RC, and may be won a few people over, but this latest thing is just pathetic, and puts him right back where he was, an over paid clothes horse.

I also don't understand how you can get more points by not playing than by playing badly.
It's not that you get more points. I think it's because world ranking points are worked out on a 2-year rolling average basis, so playing another tournament where you don't earn any points reduces your overall average and therefore potentially drops you down the world rankings.

Read the official explanation of how it all works here.

Another example of Poulter being a public relations nightmare. He had done a lot to get public opinion on his side at the Ryder Cup and now shows himself up to be a spoilt brat who won't play just because a club has gone missing
