I have just been told that Pottergate Gold Course near Lincoln is up for sale once again at a price of £675,000.

can anyone confirm that this is true?

If so, I do hope that a buyer is forthcoming as it would be sad to see it go the same way as Martin Moor and Owmby.

Yes its up for sale again as the buyer pulled out 48 hrs before it was supposed to go through, Couple of different rumours as to why it fell through, They have now changed the membership fees to £149 then £4 a time and this has really peeved the seniors off so a load are looking at joining Welton so I am led to believe.

Its losing around 60-70k a year and the membership buyout has not gone to well. Really hope that they don't close it as its a lovely little 9 hole course. I was member no 50 when it 1st opened.

Seems like Lincolnshire suffering a bit. Is there a particular reason why so many courses in that area are in trouble
I think too many course not enough golfers, too many green fields in Lincolnshire. Pottergate, owmby, Martin moor all popped up in the boom times of the early 90's. Sudbrooke moor at Grantham also did but they are thriving and have membership fees that are flexible.

Horncastle did a deal on groupon today for 12 months membership for £199! That's just going to annoy the current membership.

Sandilands is also in administration at the minute and the new buyer is planning on turning it into a pay and play with no membership. Strange business model IMO.

Its a great little course, but I fear that the tractors will return before long as it becomes arable farmland once again. I still haven't gotten over Martin Moor now being a farm field again.

I think your right and if this doesn't work then it's a gonna, the guy that owns its is in the turfing business and that's the option he may use. I hope they can work it out.

I know that this is an old thread but thought I'd update it. The club sold to a keen golfing family who will be moving in in December I believe so definitely not going the way of Martin Moor.

Quaker, this isn't a criticism but the rumours circulating that the club was losing money hand over fist (60-70k per year) were completely untrue. Myself and a partner looked at buying the place about a year ago, I've still got complete copies of all the official books going back several years, and it was doing ok if not well. I could go into why it wasn't making more money offline if you like. Both myself and my partner decided not to buy in the end but we were pretty close to buying the place.

Totally agree about the membership changes - didn't sit well with me at all. I'm a member of Potter but also Blankney. It's now free for me to play at Blankney or I have to pay each round at Potter. Knowing both courses where do you think I generally go? :)

Truth is I enjoy both but it still niggles to have to pay each round at Potter and more importantly you can't just pitch up and go early or late on on a summers evenings as you used to be able to do. I often play Blankney going out before 6 in the morning in the summer or early evening when the pro shop is closed - can't do that at potter any more.
