Hi everyone,

I know this post has been covered in the past but i'm gonna post it anyway!

I'm getting custom fitted for a new set of irons later in the year so until then not sure what irons i will end up going for.

I have some Cobra forged SS at the moment which I have had for about 7 years, I do really like the look and feel of them. Just fancy a change and a proper fitting, to move forward with my game.

I still like the look of the cobra Irons but haven't tried anything else.

There seems to be an awful lot of preferences as to what people play with so just after a few recommendations and why?

Thanks guys

I cant recommend a particular set to you but i wouldn't change your irons during the summer as it will probably affect your game for the worse throughout the season.

Other than that i'd get to your nearest pro shop or AG with a range and try as many as possible. If you have a budget then i think it makes the decision easier because your restricted to what you can and cant have.

Good luck trying new irons though mate.

I'm in the same boat with regards a new driver. I don't want to spend more than £200 though i will if its the right one for me.

I played Callaway X12 Pro Series irons all my days until I seen the Mizuno MP-37's advertised at £299 a few years ago. I bought them on a whim as I'd never tried a blade before and never knew if I could actually hit them.

Best thing I ever done, searched internet when I got home and cheapest price I could find was, £599 so if all failed trying to hit them I'd at least cover my money. Wasn't an issue once I played a few rounds with them.

Having played with them now for a few years and tried a few friends different Mizuno models I can easily say they are the greatest irons I'v ever played. I've never had the urge to try any irons even when at the range but my eyes could be opened I suppose, but would take something really special.

I absoutley agree with the above, Mizuno irons are summit else.

If you are getting fitted, get yourself to a mizuno fitting centre. I went to Clays range in Wrexham. Its free and last about 90mins and they pro covers everything you could imagine. Its the only way to buy I think, seriously. You can pick up an Iron in AG, whack it in a net for 5 minutes or a few down the range but being fit with a vector or trackman makes sure you are using the best setup you can be.

First time I was fitted for clubs it was a rather limited choice. Don't get me wrong, the clubs I had fitted, Tommy Armour 855s were great. next time I was changing clubs, I looked about a bit before getting fitted. I had the choice of Titleist, Cobra or Mizuno. I ended up with Mizuno MP30s. Very nice indeed. A brief dabble with the dark side, TM LTIIs didn't work out so I went for another Mizuno fitting and ended up with MP57s. I knew what I was looking for in a club so it was a simple process last time around. However, if your doing it 1st time aroun d have a good look at what is out there before you make a choice.

Having said that, I'm definately in the Mizuno camp as far as future changes are concerned. That would be my 1st port of call. As TonyN says, get fitted, then go and get your preferred supplier to get them for you. Not necessarily a costly excercise.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Other than going to somewhere like AG my best advice would be to holf fire for a bit and wait until all the big names start doing their demo days again. You'll be able to try loads of different options and receive advice from the reps. Its a great way to try the latest models (best wait until they have released everything so about April-May) and as most are at ranges you actually get to see the ball fly off the club rather than relying on a computer.

Other than that the only other optionis to go to a specialist fitting centre (Clays, Belfry, Callaway, Ping) and try their lines out although there is normally a charge which is offset against any clubs purchased.
