After weeks of misery including six striaght 0.1s back I can at last be positive about a round.

Following on from the Men's Invitation at full_throttles's course where we put together a respectable score of 41 between us I had hopes of continuiing the form.

Today was a bogey comp, very windy so scroing wouldn't be easy. truned 1 down but finished 1 up, even after missing a straight uphiller for half on the 17th, I'd been positive about my putting all day as well but left this one half a roll short, so frustrating.

CSS was 73 when I left so hopefully it won't come down and I'll get a 0.4 cut, I was also in the lead but still about a third of the field to come in.

well done mate!!!! About time!! its just what you needed to kick start your season...... I'm getting drunk....(see my CAT 1 thread) so I'll have one for you.

Well done mate !!
Did you notice that after playing Copsewood the fairways everywhere else seem to be ten times wider than they normally are lol.
Keep at it, i'm sure theres more to come after playing so well in tough conditions.

Well done Nick. 44 points was the winning score Saturday, 3 groups came in with that, so no prizes.

If your over this way again let me know.

My game is still steady, 38 points Sunday and today, just need it together for my two matchplay games this week.

Had another good day yesterday. Greensomes honours board comp and my partner and I were leading for much of the day on count back having birdied the last 3 holes. Sadly a late group beat us by one. Second place but so close to getting my name on a board. Still 2 comps next weekend to try and go one better.

Well done Nick, you've been due a good round and it was good to see your name near the top of the leaderboard.
I managed to get out in the comp last night with Mark. We teed off at 5.15 and got back to the clubhouse approx 3hours later. You did well with +1 and finished up in fourth. I came in +2 and took second with Mark coming in with +3 and taking the win. Unfortunately after hitting a cracking drive down 18 and hitting a perfect positional lay-up, I managed to send my third in for a swim. Took a drop and played a perfect shot into the green for a steady 2 putt 7. Pretty sure CSS stayed at 73. Well done again.

Thanks Richard, and well done to you and Mark, but you could both have picked another day to turn on the style! ;) (The wind must have dropped by the time you went out! ;))

You must be both due a decent reduction then if CSS stayed at 73, 1.2 and 1.6??

How do you get a h/cap cut in a bogey comp....????

See Appendix D of the UHS handbook for the conversion of stableford and bogey scores to nett differentials.

If you're playing a bogey comp you don't have to finish a hole do you? You might hit a tee shot into the cack and just pick up..... isn't that how matchplay works? Don't see how you can judge a h/cap accordingly.... I guess I'm just not understanding it

You are understanding it and I agree with you JO, when I first played one I was told that I should record every score as handicap was still worked out on Stableford. I did this and my Stableford score meant I was 3 under handicap even though I was +2 against the card as one of the holes I won was with a birdie on a shot hole. I was expecting a cut to suit but HDID only cut me for 2, I was arguing this with our handicap committee for ages until I was told it was just done on your matchplay score.

So on Monday I started with a blob, and when i checked my Stableford score I was at 36 points so bang on handicap yet I'll get cut as if I'd scored 37 points.

It's just the way it is, but it makes your mindset different on tricky downhill putts for net par. Younmight ordinarily cosy it to the hole as you're afraid of going miles by and then missing the return for net bogey and one point, you can now hit it harder and take the break out.

Thanks Nick, you know everyone that was left at the clubhouse said the wind must've dropped but I beg to differ. After cracking a drive up 14 with a nice clean strike I was suprised to see it only just clear the ditch as the wind held it up. Coming the other way on 15 though I was well past the 150 posts from the tee. It's about time I had a decent round though as I've really been struggling this season. It's all thanks to my lesson with Kieran. Looking forwards to a cut as I would like to get into the teens this year.

Results are in and Nick well done on the third spot. CSS came down too so I didn't get such a big cut as I was hoping for, but I'll be looking for more this week.
