Time to off-load my latest disaster. Had a poor comp result on Wed and went up 0.1 . Took some action in form of a roll up lesson whhich pinpointed a fault in my backswing resulting in hitting off-line and restricting body turn. Managed 9 hole practice on Friday and did a medal today - in which my score was even worse! A lot of this (but not all) was due to poor bunker play. Thinking maybe I should have sat out the medal, but do feel a lot more confident of my swing. Long game a-okay.
Still have to conquer the bunker thing and some wobbly putting.
Just can't understand why I'm not feeling totally abject after a horrendous card, except that enjoyed company of my partner (whpo played really well) and feel I at least know what needs fixing. (Glass of wine may also have helped)
Hav e engaged mr B for bunker lesson in week. If that doesn't work, will pay for a pro.
Up another 0.1 - but as Boris Becker said, nobody died!

Had a very poor game myself today but fortunately just a social game so no real issue. Just frustrated as I'm on a bit o f a good run (well before today) and had hit it well in practice midweek. I hope it was a timing issue and nothing else. I think your bunker issues may be a confidence thing now rather than a playing issue. Get out there and make a full and committed swing and pick a point in the sand you want to hit and accelerate and turn through

I know how you feel. Over the last few weeks I've had some really poor comp scores but felt like I've hit the ball pretty well. I've been working hard on some changes to eliminate my hook and I feel like I'm really getting somewhere despite my scores. The missus can't understand why I havn't had my usual strop after the last 2 rounds but I feel like I'm about to go really low very soon. My pro told me on Thursday that I was swinging the club better than he had ever seen me swing which has given me so much confidence and I can't wait next weeks comp.

Golf is a strange game, sometimes you can hit the ball well and not get the ball in the hole, maybe the way you're feeling is because you know inside that things aren't as bad as the scores suggest. Keep the faith and you'll get that .1 back with interest pretty soon.

A Good tip to get better at bunker play is to practice a lot, every time you go out an play a few holes on your own play a practice shot out of ever bunker. I play at a quite though link course which has deep pot bunkers everywhere but i no longer have any fear of bunkers bec of practice.

am now playing in a comp Wednesday (unexpected as I was only a reserve) but will def go out Tuesday and give thos bunkers a go. Luckily none of them are pot bunkers!

Ali. I know your pain re bunkers.

But why put your ball in them in the first place? If the rest of your game is ok, take them out of play. Don't go for the pin at the front if protected by bunkers, lay up on the side that takes them out of play or take an extra club or two and make sure you fly past them and rely on your putting :)

Boris and I apparently have totally different ways of saying the same thing (check my sig ). Don't worry about it :) :)

cheers Leftie
I agree and usually play to a bunker avoidance plan. Of the times I went in, one was a poor hit, one was bad judgement (wind behind and dry ground took me way beyond usual length) and I admit one was a bit of an adventurous shot.
Have learned my lesson. But it would be good to be able to go for the pin from time to time! And one of my other disaster holes was probably an indirect result of bunker fear causing me to mis-hit.

Thansk anyway and will be more conservative next time.
