Hi guys
HID has booked us into the Portavadie spa hotel loch Fyne for 2 nights bb we've never been before so,
I thought drive to Gourock then ferry to Dunoon and drive the rest , is this the best route and what's the best ferry to get , also any recommendations for places to dine and visit.
I don't think I'll be allowed any golf but you never can tell, so any good courses quite near just in case.
thanks in advance.

Only course is Kyles of Bute, beautiful location stunning views. Course not great though.

Portavadie marina is lovely. Great setting plus excellent food. I'd pop over to Tarbert for an hour or two especially if there are any festivals on. Kames & Tighnabruaich are both nice and some good fishing for mackerel and some sea trout. I'd also use the ferry.

Not the easiest place to get to, we stayed at Otter Ferry quite a few years ago, beautiful area.

I would probably drive via Erskine Bridge, Loch Lomond, Inverary and the Rest and be Thankful. That way you soak up the beautiful scenery.

The other route is to hopscotch over Bute with the two ferries. The wee Ferry at Colintraive runs every 15 mins and takes about 4 minutes to cross.

Dunoon route probably the shortest and least expensive, watch that road through Glen Lean though, it's a bit scary.

Have a good break.

PS The Kames Hotel is good for food and drink if you fancy a change.

Got back from a week visiting the wife's family in Tarbert last Saturday. If your heading into Tarbert I would recommend the Anchor Hotel for food, but there's not a lot to do in the town.

Managed to slope off with the brother-in-law for a few hours to play Machrihanish, really enjoyed it & would say it's definitely worth a visit.

:cheers:Did you have to pre book or just turn up on the day for Machrihanish ?

Drive it.

I am doing just that on Saturday.

Off to arrange my wedding which is being held over that way in October.

Magic part of the world and the marina is superb, secluded and beautiful.

Kames Hotel is great, also the Royal An Lochan and the Barn at Millcroft just a mile from you is good for a bite to eat but do not miss out on the Burnside Bistro at Tighnabruich.

Booked a couple of days before hand, via the website. It was fairly busy & we played on a Monday morning, so would say booking is a priority. Also struggled to find the course it's not sign posted very well.

I've also heard good things about Machrihanish Dunes, but didn't get the chance to play it this time.

Thanks , but HID has said no way so its a good book for me.

This is getting bad. I just found out the Machrihanish seniors open is on while I'm just a few miles up the road , there may be trouble ahead . Did HID do this on purpose, that is the question. :mmm:
