The BBC version of the Victorian novel War of the World's will not allow the song "I feel pretty" and a lady will be play the lead with a gay man in support. I think I woken up in a parallel universe where originality has no relevant or bearing.

Seems the modern overly pc world we currently reside in feels the need to sanitise everyone for the sake of being inclusive and not offending..

I'm all for equal rights and opportunities but how can you claim to be telling a classic tale when you go and change the main parts of it in order to display your "diversiveness"

I saw the trailer the other day and isn’t the lady lead with her husband ? Is it that they have just introduced a gay character?
And can’t remember the song I fell pretty in jeff Wayne’s Version

When they make these adaptations there always a touch of poet licences to align the stories to real life a little

looking forward to this one

I read WOTW at school as part of my English Literature, loved the story back then. Looks like this one is based more on the original H. G. Wells from the previews. Looking forward to it.

Baffled with the idea of "I fell pretty" being in the 'original' WotW. As for the BBC then 'not allowing' it to be in the new TV adaptation - eh?

And surely as it is an adaptation, then it is absolutely normal and acceptable for the story and characters to be tweaked for today's audiences (see Tom Cruise film for example #1 of a mess of an adaptation of WotW). Female lead with gay support? - bring it on.

Had the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sly Stallone grew up in their prime years today, rather than the late 1970's to 1990's, I wonder if they would have enjoyed the same success?

Highly unlikely.

Lilly Allen is asking that we stop singing "Rule Brittannia" - I agree with equality and diversity but I fear these things can easily backfire !

Wokingians are not happy with it filmed elsewhere.

The sand pit where they landed in the book was one of our favourite playgrounds as children.

I have no problem with anything that results in Woking being blown up. It's a dump. This promises to be the best adaption yet. Every other one, the Tom Cruise version definitely included, was absolute pants. Use the Jeff Wynne music, set it in the 1890s quoting the original locations and then let loose on the CGI.

In fact if they do set it in the 1890s, there's a really good chance of seeing chrisd in the background
