Hi all,

With Club Championship season upon us, we want to know about the format at your club. Are you happy with the format? What, if anything, would you change if you were in charge?

As always, comments are encouraged.

Hope everyone is enjoying the glorious weather and getting out to play a lot of golf.

Kind regards,

Nick

two rounds of stroke play over two weekends the to 8 in scratch and 8 handicap go to matchplay over the next week with the finals on the friday night with the scratch switching to the Blues tee's and the rest the normal medal tee.

Our's is a bit different......Club comps consist of 4 qualifying rounds in which players qualify for a final which is played over 18/36 holes a couple of weeks after the last qualifier. There are four major comps played on Saturday and one on Wednesday over the summer. Around 23 handicap qualifying rounds plus a couple of "on the day" board comps and our main opens for a total of around 28.

Our Club Champion is the player returning the lowest 4 round gross total from these competitions.

Not saying it's the best format but it does reward consistency and will always be won by the best golfer over the season which IMO is how it probably should be. What it doesn't do is create any real excitement outside the few in with a chance with a couple of rounds to go. Don't agree at all with clubs who have a one-off comp or worse still a nett comp (heaven forbid!). Matchplay is much more of a spectacle and I'd like to see our's changed to put say the top 8 into a seeded matchplay towards the end of the season to create more interest.

36 hole stroke play over Saturday and Sunday (1st weekend in August). Top few go out in the final pairings on day 2.
There are scratch and handicap prizes. The scratch champ is obviously the official club champ, last year scratch and handicap were won by the same fella.
I'm happy with the format.

Ours is strokeplay over 36 holes on one day. Only the 84 entrants with the lowest handicaps take part so never entered it yet

Two rounds strokeplay, lowest 8 go through to knockout matchplay. All the matches played in one week (this week!) with the final over 18 holes on Saturday.

Men's is the same except 16 go through and the final is 36 holes. Not sure why the difference other than men are more important, obviously.

18 on the Saturday then a cut for top 30 gross go through to Sunday

We have two courses so we have a 36 hole stroke play format.

This is all done in one day not played it yet but think it will be tough going.

Two sets of winners too I believe too one handicap and one scratch.

We have 3 qualifying rounds. your 2 best gross scores to count from the three.

Top 15 lowest gross qualify plus last years winner.

Then its knockout matchplay to decide the winner.

All off scratch.

We don't do a NET comp for club champion.

18 on Saturday followed by 18 the day after - lowest gross wins although there is a handicap prize as well.

this except we have a cut after day 1, anyone who doesnt get in can play in the plate on day 2. always a good fun weekend with a decent turnout, leaderboard on the wall outside the clubhouse, bbq etc etc

2 rounds strokeplay played over 2 days on the same weekend with a cut after round 1.

Personally I'd rather it was 36 in one day but then we wouldn't get many entries.

They've changed ours this year.

Qualifying medals throughout the Summer split into divisions. For the main prize have to shoot 76 or below to qualify Div two is 85 and div three is 93.

Then Sept 20th 36 holes in Division ,gross and nett

On current Medal form wont be worrying me !!
