Played a fantastic matchplay match last night, I definitely prefer (and play better at ) matchplay. Still enjoy strokeplay don't get me wrong, but whether it is individual or team I love the cut-and-thrust of a match.

I prefer matchplay and the pressure that comes with making that putt to win or halve the match to keep it alive.

Unfortunately I don't play enough of it.

I really cant choose yet.

Ive had a great week of two medals where I have got a cut and an awesome matchplay that went the distance and more......

I cant call it as to which I prefer...

Probably strokeplay as Its me against the course and havnt got too worry about anyone else.

Therefore I don't feel guilty for holing a freak put or hitting a worldy recovery. Or feel slightly chuffed and having to say ' unlucky' when a short put is missed....;)

All these repeat over again polls....Am I cynical or is apprentice/work experience week ?

I can just see someone in GM towers shouting........FGS give her/him something meaningful to do!

Probably a child of a sub editor!

I would say strokeplay, its about you and the course. Bad holes and you get punished, good holes get rewarded.

Matchplay has to many factors outwith your control. You can play badly and win, which tbh isn't the most satisfying, playing well and losing can also sting a bit.

For me its
Stroke Play
Scratch Match play
Match play

TO PLAY- Strokeplay

TO WATCH- Matchplay

so what do I choose on the pole? needs more options methinks

Matchplay for me because I am capable of racking up an 8 without much trouble. In strokeplay, that's 4 shots lost sometimes, but in matchplay it's one hole.

Matchplay only just shades it. I love pretty much all formats, inc greensomes & foresomes. My least favourite, albeit a form of strokeplay, is stableford.

Matchplay - either individual or pairs.

A bad hole doesn't necessarily mean a lost match. Usually good rapport as well.

Strokeplay for me, every shot matters and counts and it is a test on your ability in a full round of golf.

In Matchplay people can drop shots and it not really matter as it is simply a lost hole.

Enjoy both forms but really enjoy a good battle in matchplay

Stopped liking Matchplay when, giving 18 shots away, my oppo knocked one stiff on a par 3 for a gimmee birdie meaning I had a Hole-in-One for a half.....guess who won that hole....?
