Hi all,

Hope all is well. We want to know how many times each year you'd expect to play to your handicap. What would you consider a good return and what would you consider a bad return?

Thanks,

Nick

surely you need to know how many times someone plays to make this mean anything. Big difference ticking 5-8 when you play 10 games a year or 100 games a year?

Yeah I would of thought a percentage would be a better indication.

I would think 5-8 but I based that purely on competitive play. I don't tend to care too much about my scores in roll up games and would rather use the round as preparation (try a few things) for the next comp. This is usually the case at weekends where we can have our normal swindle on Saturday and a comp on the Sunday. I'm never fussed how well the Saturday goes as long as I can feel I've half a chance of playing well or at least know what the cause of bad shots are. Rollups and social games are just that and I play them all for fun these days and don't get stressed (as much) if I chop it

I've answered 20+ as I am still improving and so my hcap is typically being cut at QCs and I normally play there and abouts during social golf.

Re your other question, good i see as a cut at the moment, OK is on or in buffer, and poor is buffer +. Others may have a different view but as I said, my game is improving so reductions are what I am after at the moment.

Despite my disaster start on sat, I do intend on improving a lot this season. therefore I am expecting a high percentage. I have already hit the mark in friendlies and do intend to improve steadily..

All in all I haven't got a clue about the original question;)

Expect Ill play 30ish comps throughout the year, so 6 or 7 of these maybe (already on 1), in bounce games tend to play more matchplay than strokeplay so dont tend to worry about the score overly

I voted 20+. I will probably play around 30 ish competitions and would expect/hope at least 10 times to play to my handicap or better in them. In bounce games I would expect to play 50-60 and play handicap or better 20 times minimum. Roughly speaking 30 out of 90 altogether so 1 in 3 games. I would add that my handicap maybe still slightly a little slack in relation to my ability :D

Playing to handicap or just over is a decent day, under is a good day and 7 over/less than 30 points is a poor day.
Less than 20 hide the rope......:p

When ever there is a prize at stake I will always hope or expect to shot on or below my handicap. This could be forum meets, swindles, society days, trade golf days and lads trips away. I'd expect to play in about 20-30 of these type of events and my expectation would be 10 or above.
In Sundays comps I aim to win as many as I can or get cut as often as I can so I'd expect to play to below my handicap at 90% of them, my handicap is 12 so I aim to shoot a round of 80 at the most and am trying to get under this. So far only one round has come in under 80, i'm hovering at 81/82 on the last three events. So 99% of the time I'm going out expecting to be on or under.

About 1 in 10 rounds, I'm just not consistent enough to play my best golf on a more regular basis (best being to handicap, PB's being exceptional golf)

About 5-8 times a year going on about 40 qualifying games (not counting our mid week "chuck in's" off yellows). Can hit within the buffer quite a lot to keep my handicap stable.

Then your handicap is wrong

This is perhaps a highly misguided question coming from a full on amateur, but, if you're not playing to your handicap...why isn't your handicap higher?
