Got up this morning and probably like most Suprised that trump got in. Don't wanna talk specifically about him. There's enough threads on here for that, But.

The UK have voted for Brexit, I voted for Brexit but was Suprised when most of the U.K. Did. Angela Merkels party in Germany is going backwards. trump wins in USA.

My point is have the people of the world had enough of the way things are being done. Brexiters have had enough of faceless EU politicians. Trump played the Clinton has done nothing for you for years. The German people have had enough of Merkels "out of touch" with the German people.

If there is a change in world politics, why and what is the straw that broke the camels back.

Thoughts please.

Decline in standards of education.
For Brexit and Trump the pollsters kept telling us that it was mainly going to be poorly educated white working class males who were voting for them.
Either they were wrong or there are one hell of a lot of poorly educated white males in the world today.

I think it's credibility Tashyboy, people are sick of being lied to and a lack of responsibility, Tories blame Labour, Labour blames Tories and I believe this repeated across the world, I've no idea if Trump is better than Clinton and wouldn't dare tell anyone how to vote, but it seemed to me it was about voting for the one you disliked the least.
If there is to be a big change, there are some rough times ahead. I fear for our children.

It's gonna be massive. Germany and France will have elections and vote their clowns out. We will all become independent countries again and get on with our lives and rebuild our own countries indentities respecting each others ways and beliefs.

That's the bit I certainly haven't got from any recent campaigns

Certain 'politicians' and I use the word regrettably (Le Pen, Wilders, Trump, Farage) have stepped up in campaigning terms using fear tactics to drive their own personal agenda's. Sadly, the least educated and susceptible to this rhetoric due to social degradation are buying into it. These are backward steps but will hopefully be overcome in time. The longer it takes, the greater problem I see is for militant groups to rise up who pose genuine risk. The world economy is struggling for many and I think inclusion and anti protectionist policies would be the best long term to help us all out.

Complacency, and an attitude that doesn't give anyone else other than themselves credit for any semblance of intelligence.

Least educated my arse, some of the smartest people I know voted Brexit and work with a few well educated engineers from the states, to a man all voted trump. Politicians have done nothing to ease the day to day worries of people, things like getting a doctor's appointment, getting your kids into your local school, the vote IMO was a backlash against this. Expect similar throughout Europe.

Hopefully 40 years of proper debate being stifled by the left of centre will be ended. They might learn that insulting opponents loses elections and that you need to engage people in conversation.

Trumps comments about ALL Muslims were disgusting. BUT his opponents needed to not ignore the fact they applied appropriately to a very small but troubling minority.

Both US candidates were totally unsuitable for office....but the media seemed happy to go after only one. Why is that?

I am a bit shocked about the comments above about least educated, who am I to judge if someone with a education is better or not. Think of the mess we are in via debt, and who has been in charge in theory the most educated. One thing for sure is that big business and wealthy people generally run the show at the moment and still do.

BTW I am someone who has been though the education system and studied upto about 24.

Anyway, I agree a wind of change is coming and has been for probably just over two decades now. I have been hearing it from my clients since late 90s, for me to hear it means it had been brewing for a number of years before that.

I am not surprised and anyone who is, has not been listing to the 'people' who they rule over.

Time will tell what that change is and whether it is for the better.

100%.

Always had a view that voting is a mix of "how might it affect me" and more ideological reasons.

Completely unscientific, but my feeling is the UK EU ref one was quite a mix across these two, and the US one may have been more the former.

Who knows though.

and you think that is going to change ??

That is disgraceful, and also shows that you know nothing about what is going on. you keep you head in that sand pal, whilst the world changes around you.

A wind of change indeed. I fear that the problem will be when the feelings of resentment and anger, that have been brought about by entitlement and jealousy, are not satisfied and ameliorated by the new order and by control of immigration. When the resentments and anger remains.

So educated people vote one way and thicko's another? Have I understood that right? Maybe it is believing that that has allowed Trump and others to prosper. Many people feel let down by politicians and Trump is the anti establishment option. That is very appealing to a lot of people who feel forgotten.

Politicians need to get back to a few basics. Answer questions, yes the one being asked of you, with a straight answer. Accept when things are wrong and not working, have a plan to solve it. You can't solve everything but don't try to kid us that all is well. We are not stupid. Be honest. Start with this in mind and people will begin to believe again.

Oh the world is changing. Whatever the reasons, and many are perfectly valid, it's the politics of populism, nationalism and blame and very few actual policies or real solutions....... It's all got echos of 1920/30's Europe. Great stuff, that went well.

I am just wondering who Donald Trump hasn't insulted during his campaign! He has insulted Mexicans, women, Latin Americans, Black Americans, Scots (re his golf course there), Muslims, and so on. Guess there must be more white rednecks than we thought!
