Polar Winter on its way...

Not fussed. If I can't get in I can't get in. I've kept 5 days leave set by in case given the predictions plus I'll try accruing plenty of flexi after Christmas to use. I'm not going to walk miles to the station, stand on a platform for hours with no information if and when any train is due. Even if I can get in, no guarantee I'll get home and not forking for a price hiked hotel unless the NHS are going to cover it

Not missed a weekend of golf so far, although there is an enormous Fox's Glacier Mint by the 18th green so maybe the cold weather is just around the corner...

Wouldn't believe a word that rag says about the whether! If you believe any of the trash in it you'd have died every other day with their doom and gloom journalism.

According to the express we will never see the sun again and people must be believers as supermarkets, are reporting, people are stockpiling. It takes allsorts. Would love it if a National would report we in for a heatwave over Christmas.

First major road closure of the winter up here due to snow today. A93 Braemar to Spittal of Glenshee closed until after lunch time. Looking good for the skiiers. Good job it's links golf at Carnoustie this weekend. :D

The scaremongering gives me the hump

A couple of years ago when we had about 4-inches people emptied the supermarket shelves in minutes and the co-op round the corner actually had a huge queue for people awaiting the bread and milk lorries. 24hrs later it had pretty much thawed and gone.

The road chaos is quite often caused by incompetent driving, I managed to get a Mercedes E320 up a steep hill whilst cars with front wheel drive and weight over the wheels were wheel-spinning with their foot to the floor.

If it happens this winter it happens, Im not about to start doomsday preparations.

It's pathetic really, the press in this country are just pointless doom and gloom merchants, right through to any off our national sports teams they are so negative, I will believe what the weather is when it's announced by the met office a few days before until then the express, mail, start etc can do one!!

Waste of time, they don't report news imo. Newspapers are more like comics.

Said in the news last week that this week would have heavy snow and chaos ensued. I haven't even seen a single snow flake yet :D

Last bought a paper 10 years ago as its just ridiculous, heavy snow my  we have only had 1 decent frost this month so far. The local rag is just as bad as the nationals judging by what I look at on the net. Everyday must be a slow news days in Lincoln.

when people understand and appreciate that they can only accurately predict 5 days in advance they might stop building arcs and clearing supermarkets everyweek, the rest is just to sell newspapers:rolleyes:

It will be winter soon. It well get colder. There might be a bit of snow. This is not news and the same has occurred for thousands of years.

Lazy journalism.

It's often a load of nonsense what you read in the papers about this stuff IMO. Even the normally sensible i newspaper had a front page headline about The Big Freeze - they immediately got Emails from readers telling them not to be so silly and alarmist - leave that to the likes of The Express.

It's quite cold and there has been some snow in Scotland and North of England.

And if you are reading this thread in Shetland you;ll be thinking - well we are not that far from the Arctic Circle. And if in Aberdeen you'll be thinking Polar? Pah! Lightweight on the chill front - come to Aberdeen and really feel cold.

As someone who works in the weather industry I can confirm that this is just bad reporting on bad science. Truely frightening really, stupid scaremongering based on nothing more than the fact that some long range forecasts (which are flakey at best ) say it might be colder than average. They then extrapolate this into 100 days of snow. Bit pathetic really.

lol, nice pun.

Wednesday jsut gone it was supposed to snow heavy, I watched as the clouds came over and saw, nothing. That said I do believe, and this has nothing to do with the Express, that we will have a really cold winter, we won't necessarily have much snow, but it will be bitterly cold with temps down below freezing for long periods.
