This one always causes great debate with me and a few of my playing partners.

During a normal round of golf, no winter rules or anything like that, do you get to remove your ball when it has plugged in the rough?

Nope, fairway only unless the local rule is in place.

I'm curious as to why it would cause great debate. Does no one have a copy of the rules?

I'm afraid not

One of those rules that should be amended IMO

i love getting a plugged ball, hacking massive chunks out of the course and not repairing it, best feeling ever revenge for no local rule

we do but none of have the necessary PHD in english to decipher them lol

If no local rules are in place then the rules as they are in the book apply. Even the title of the section describes it so real easy to find. No rule gymnastics involved :D

Rule 25: Abnormal Ground Conditions, Embedded ball and Wrong Putting Green.

25-2 Embedded ball.

A ball embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground in any closely mown area through the green may be lifted, cleaned and dropped, without penalty, as near as possible to the spot where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green. “Closely-mown area” means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less.

I'm sure the other people at your club think you're great for hacking the course up and then not repairing it

I'm guessing you don't ever complain about divots and pitch marks not being repaired

We be simple folks in derbyshire  lol

There is a (Temporary) Local Rule available, separate from, but often applied with 'Winter Rules' that allows relief for ball plugged 'through the green'.

Unless that is in place, then no relief. As others have posted, stay on the short stuff!
