Just looking to book our annual golf trip, this year its Preston. Hotel booked just trying to sort the green fees/courses out. Four of us, handicaps range from 18 to 27 so courses not to challanging. Was looking at Pleasington on the Friday (18), Garstang Saturday (36) and Leyland Sunday (18). Was hoping for some reviews on these courses, any info appreciated.

Just asking a question thats all. Which section would you advise to put the post in as i thought the lounge says. Come inside and discuss anything !

I can help you out matey. Garstang is o.k but no more. Dont know about the other 2. Preston GC and Penworthem are very nice though. Mods will move the post if required!!

As stated, Garstang is ok. Nice, wide and open and not too hard for beginners. Pleasington was very good and challenging. Not played Leyland.

Since your near to the area, you really need to stop by St Annes Old Links. You will not be disappointed.

As mentioned, Garstang is ok. The greens are decent for a pay and play and the fairways aren't too long. It's mainly the paths too the next hole which are ripped up by buggies etc.

But for £18 for 18 holes at the weekend...don't get much better in the Fylde area. They also do various offers like 27 and 36 holes with buggies and lunch etc.

If you can...come to Blackpool. Play De Vere, North Shore and Fleetwood/St Annes Old Links. If you prefer to keep it a little cheaper I always enjoy a round around Stanley Park. Staining is also a cheaper option, its a developing course, gets better every year and some of the holes are quite long.

Garstang is ok,you can get better courses for around same price, not played the other 2 recently but Pleasington always gets good feed back.....

Others that aint been mentioned,Longridge nice course with great greens and the views from the course n clubhouse are fantastic and good green fees....
Fishwick
Morecambe
Shaw Hill

Plenty coursesbetter than Garstang but its whether u can get on them over w/end with comps...

Unless your willing to travel out to the coast I would look at Preston, pleasington, shaw hill, penwortham and chorley.
To be honest mate I'd give Preston a miss and travel out to the fylde coast. If you was to play St Anne's old links, Lytham green drive and fleetwood it wouldn't cost much more than any three of the above.

I work in Preston and it's not somewhere I'd want to go for a weekend away.

I live in Preston and have to agree with Qwerty

It's terminally dull and the condition is usually barely passable. I believe if you are on a golf trip play courses that will pease you not leave you wondering why you bothered. I see you wanted to play 36 holes - this is not the place to do it. 20 mins north and you have Lancaster and Morecambe (both top notch), 20 minutes west and you have the fylde coast with all it's delights (st annes old is fantastic), 20 minutes eastish and you've got Clitheroe which is brilliant. There's plenty of good quaity golf to be had around here and Garstang isn't it.

Garstang is OK, no better than that. It's ok for a round when you have a hangover and don't really care about quality. Pleasington is a much better prospect. It's a fantastic course with a great layout and some really good greens. It will rain at some point though :whoo:.. I haven't played Leyland, but a friend of mine is a member and he loves it.

Given the choice, I would play Pleasington, then look at some of the coastal courses, like West Lancs, Lytham Green Drive, Southport and Ainsdale. Then I would look at Longridge as a cheaper option. Quite tricky, and the greens are usually excellent. The view are awesome too...

Once again thanks for your views but the problem is the Saturday. We were wanting to get 36 holes in, but a lot of the better courses that have been named will not be open to non-members as it will be comp day.

If you're looking at 36 holes on the Saturday have a look at herons reach in Blackpool it's a De Vere course with a hotel attached. I'm sure you wouldn't have any problems getting a tee time.

Fleetwood is also pretty good for weekend tee times as well, despite being a members club. Its also probably one of the best value courses I've played.

Like others have said, I think you would feel like it was a day wasted if you played Garstang.
