Played with some new people today. Told them I play off 26 even though I play of 28 net par the first net egale second and net par. Then all I had for the next two holes was moaning 26 really cheat blah blah put me right off and played crap the rest of the round

Yup, that's golf. People are so unforgiving. It doesn't get better with handicap either. If you had said you're off ten, it would have made no difference. People are knobs, they just are.

Welcome to golf.

Will come with time, I started a medal last year birdie, birdie, par, birdie and got it round the front in 2 under and was getting it laid on thick naturally. If you're a member of a club join a couple of the roll ups, meet some people and just play golf. 98% of people aren't bellends

Once you've played a few times people will realise your true ability. Well played, keep it going. You might as well post a good score, and be called a bandit, than post a bad score, feel disappointed and have people sniggering.

Unfortunately just because people play golf it does not make them nice people. I'm a high handicapper and sometimes will start like that. If people make a comment I just laugh it off. "Let's see the number at the end shall we", is my usual reply. Keep it light, laugh about it. It unnerves the unpleasant people as they want you to bite. Sad people.

The guys I play with if anyone of us plays like that, he gets some stick as. I have had my fair bit as well. Laughing about it helps us to "stay loose". Comments like hcap sec is havin a letter, you need a bigger sombrero is all part and parcel of our golf. but am sure I would never say owt like that to a new player who I did not know.

Personally I'd never tell people I'm off lower so if you're off 28, then play off 28. No shame and the only way is downwards handicap wise. Sadly, golfers will often make comments. especially towards higher handicap players if they get off to a good start and especially if the lower player isn't playing as well. Usually a tint of jealousy. Ignore it or just have a laugh with it, but above never take it to heart, and certainly never let it put you off your game. Stick to your guns, play your own game, use your shots, getting it in play or back into play by the shortest route if you hit a bad one and have fun
