Since getting first handicap(24) played a couple of games since which were all over the place. Not sure if handicap figure is on my mind, thinking I should be at least be playing to that figure. How often do you play to your handicap or better ? All replies appreciated.

I got my first handicap of 23 in February, and having played half a dozen rounds since, I've played to it once. Today! Don't get disheartened mate, it'll come. Just keep playing your game and relax when you're doing it.

If I am improving I would expect to play to/ better it 2-3 out of every 5 rounds.

If its steady then 2 in 10

If its too low then never!

This is just a thought and in no way intended to be a criticsm, but was thinking, maybe it's harder to play to a higher handicap initially? A 24/25/26 handicap player has dropped down from 28 in part to a few better than average rounds (those rounds that have been used to put a card in), but being a higher handicap its not as easy to hit those better than average rounds?

From my own experience (i joined my track in summer 2011 which is when i started playing regularly enough to say i played golf), so i started out as a 28 handicap and my rounds were all over the place, to me i was made up if i shot low 90's, but that was few and far between, but slowly and surely i started getting to that handicap, once i'd improved enough to regularly play to say, a 24,23 it seemed to come together a bit better. Now down to a 14.8 and seem to be playing to that quite comfortably every round, just seem's to be 1 or 2 shots that are stopping me from dropping down to say a lower 14.

Regular playing should see you getting there. A word of advice if you don't mind me saying. At the beginning of last year i was off a 19 and spent all year thinking/worrying about getting my handicap down. But 1 bad hole would see my round go to pieces, so much so that i finished up on an 18 by years end. This year i've just concentrated on enjoying my golf and if i have a bad hole then so be it, and that mentality, i think is why i've dropped down to my current handicap alot quicker.
