Last night I went out for 13 holes at Blue Mountain GC with my Dad & brother in law. We're going away in a group of 9 this weekend for a bit of a comp, so thought we'd get a few holes in before we go.

I finished 5 under my HC. And that included a 9 on a par 3 (don't ask).

I think I made 4 bogeys, all the others were pars and 1 birdie (with an eagle putt which hit the hole but jumped out!).

I'm so excited for the weekend 'cos I'm playing so well, which I'm sure means I'll play like a moron but hey ho.

Long may this run continue, lessons have paid off in a big way!

However, my excitement is laced with fear and doubt - I've not played this well ever, and I'm really scared that I'll lose it soon and go back to hacking it round in 105. How do I keep my head straight as well as keep the good run going?

whenever i think ive cracked it the golfing Gods come and bite me on the behind;)

For me, the key is to not think about it. As soon as I start to try and rationalise what it is that has resulted in my improvement, I'm stuffed! Just enjoy it.

How's the SLDR going?

Good going, you have worked hard and its showing.... remember that and it will confirm to you that its the work you have put in that is showing the results so no need to worry. You will play bad again some time but you are moving your standard forward. Take comfort in that and just look forward to whats coming.

I think I need to keep the thought of me playing so well out of my head, so I don't get too caught up in it and let it go!

The SLDR is on and off. Last night I was hitting the ball so well, it was going miles. When I'm not 100% on my game, the first thing to go is the driver! Your driver?

Playing out of my skin, ha you've gone and put the mockers on it now;)
Good luck in your mini comp. at the weekend, don't start thinking about playing badly, keep positive.

I know. I convinced myself I'd not talk about how well I'm playing whilst on the course, as to not upset the golfing gods. Let's just hope they don't have broadband either...

I'm in the same place as you at the moment. Just hoping that I can keep it together in the comps! Maybe put in a few supplementary cards and get the handicap down whilst you're on the up?

What is it you're playing off at the moment?

I'm in a similar situation having had a few rounds in recent weeks that have been much better than my average round. They have unfortunately all been followed, the next day actually, by some of the worst rounds I have played in recent months!!

Every time I have thought to myself 'wow I'm turning a corner, things are starting to improve'. I think the best advice, in my experience, is to just try to not dwell too much on the improvement. Don't think about the game, just hit the ball and see what happens.

Hugely easier said than done, but it is what I am trying to do at the moment!
