Playing on your own

Lol. Its a bit like in a book I read a while ago about a guy trying to play a par round inside a year, he went round with Seve regularly popping into his head to give him a good telling off. Whatever works...

I hate playing on my own and I'm not someone who talks out loud to himself, but, I played the Arden course at the Forest of Arden once, there was no one to go out with and I was pretty much a beginner. On the first nine, on a par 5, I hit my second into a fairway bunker, came out onto the green and sunk the birdie putt. With just me on the course I still couldn't resist a Tiger double fist pump and a couple of loud "yes's"!

The deer on the course didnt even look up!

I enjoy occasion rounds on my own when the course is quiet and I can play two balls, or drop a second ball short of the green to have two balls for the short game. I use it as an opportunity to experiment with different shots and evaluate the different outcomes.

The frustration comes when there is no-one to see you birdie a long par 5 for the first and (to date) only time...even though I shouted at the top of my voice as the ball disappeared into the hole. Of course all my regular playing partners refused to believe it (or admit to believing it) when I told them...endlessly!!

I can vaguely remember, way back in the mists of time, beating Lee Trevino to the British Open. There's been many, "this is for the Open" putts albeit not for more years than I care to recall.

Late evening golf is important to my sanity these days. After a particularly cwappy day I like to go out 7:30-8:00pm and just play half a dozen holes. The round invariably starts at a manic pace but by the time I've beaten all the frustration out on the small ball I'm sauntering back to the clubhouse for a quick beer and home. These short knocks see me starting off concentrating fiercely on the ball and then chasing it for the next shot but, as the knock progresses, I'm watching the birds and the sunset... just bliss.

I enjoy playing on my own on a quiet course.
When I was younger I would play two balls in a matchplay tussle. Strangely enough I always used to favour one ball.

Nowadays I play two ball 'better ball'.
My best ball tends to be around par whilst my worst ball is generally about 20 over.

Very much enjoy playing on my own, only ever do it now if I'm practicing for an upcoming match and the course is quiet. The problem is our course is rarely quiet and as its a fair drive I'm not inclined to pop down and find out.

I loathe playing on my own. I can just about play 9 holes before I will wait for someone else and ask to play with them. I do sometimes talk to myself though:eek:

I've certainly been known to have a 'putt for the open' and also walking up the 18th fairway to the green, putter in hand and lifting it to acknowledge my cheering fans in the galleries!

Normally, the talking I do is of a type that would be me banned if I repeated it on here!

Kraxx who occasionally posts, swears blind that soloism is not a crime, now being a single lad I'm not sure if he's referring to his golf or other areas of his life, but either way he seems to like getting out there by himself and practice playing with two balls.
