Does anyone know where to get the little piece of mats you use on the fairway through winter. My clubs don't use them but I'd rather use one and help keep the course on condition through winter. I've looked around the local golf shops btu can't find any.

Can anyone suggest where to get them?

You are joking aren't you? Those mats are the devils work & you get them from the pro'shops on courses that insist on them.

Ironically I have got a posh version of one of those mats I somehow managed topurchase for use off winter tees so I don't scratch the sole of my irons on the gritty wintertees

I know they're not the bast thing to play off but when your course gets a wet as mine, you don't take a divot which you can then replace you splash about 6" of mud around which you can't replace. This also takes the seed of the grass with it so it can't regrow.

Doesn't sound much like golf to me. Must be some other game.

I can't see being allowed to play off your own mat being allowed, part of the game is playing from whatever lie you are in. If you stick it on a mat, you might as well stick it on a tee peg too.

Too right.....enjoying that glorious moment when you "fat" it on the worlds squidgy-ist turf and see your 5 iron go 72 feet is what it's all about.

Seriously, the other day I hit a great wedge, 100 yards from the pin to a raised green, little brook surrounding the dance floor. My fave shot on the whole course. I always leave a wedge in just to take that perfect divot and watch it fly in high. As I hit the ball, a big piece of mud flew up and slapped me in the eye, it hurt like hell, but I managed to watch my ball all the way with one eye. And then cried like a girl as it stung like a mother F.....

I just remembered that the cold/wet condictions affect distance, one day last winter I had to use 7i for 100 yards!! lol I left like a senior with their drivers out on par 3's ;)

LOL......I think 72 feet with a 5 iron is very impressive. I find a 6 or 7 goes the furthest.....sometimes further than the ball....
Modern drivers go about 60-70 feet, the 460cc heads are not good for aerodynamics.

i got a good 10 feet out of my 7 iron once before it hit the only thing possible and broke the shaft in 2. I was then p***sed at my partner for leaving his trolley in the way.

I broke an 8 iron the other day, if only I had a mat with me, I would have had somewhere to sit and cry!

If mats are not ruled in at your club, you shouldnt use them. If its just a case of course care at your club, when your having a knock about, fill yer boots!

But if you do it when playing a friendly with your mates and its not ruled in.......you lose!lol.
