Had a playing lesson today...

They are fantastic! The pro was amazing, we played 7 holes off the county tees and he went birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, bogey, par (-2).

My golf was not as impressive, Par, Bogey, bogey, bogey, birdie, par, bogey (+3). 3 GIR, 4 fairways and 14 putts :(

He said I need to clean up the tempo on my putts as I was too fast with my swing but other than that he would have me as a pro/am partner any day with my game as it is. My other improvement needed is posture over short irons to stop them drawing so much.

I was very happy with the way I played and it was fantastic to out drive him on one occasion and match him on three others (as well as beat his score on two holes).

Bring on East Brighton tomorrow!

It was part of a 6 lesson package for 120

It was VERY useful! Really nailed home all the hard work and improvements from the other lessons in the series.

He was very helpful as he confirmed a lot of things I did not know I was doing right but was, as well as keeping an eye on my posture and aim.

Hearing compliments on every other shot or so was great and to get feedback in real golf situations is worth two or three range lessons!

Bad news is I "need" to buy two new clubs, a 3h or a 7 wood and maybe a 4h and pull out my 3 iron and 60 wedge. Both to better fit my home course and to fit my game in general. Maybe do some savings raiding I guess... I will think about that one.

He was a bit mean to ask me to play off the county tees though dont you think? Added 20+ yards to each hole!

I would recommend a playing lesson to anyone who feels they can shoot better than their current handicap but isnt. You do need to bit of a strong nerve to not get tense and it is very easy to not think or feel he is analysing everything.

In truth he is watching on how you cope with situations rather than details of your swing, he does those on the range.

You also need confidence in your swing, I played him as if he were any other golfer not some super god.

So if you guys can go out and do one, ask your pro if he can or thinks it would help.

I am glad to say my pro enjoyed the time out with me and I enjoyed it immensly!

Out of interest, how much did he charge if you don't mind me asking?

I'd really like an on-course lesson but given it's normally £25 for half an hour I'm anxious that half an hour on the course isn't going to get me far!

The pro will schedule a time and a tee when no one else is out, mine was at 8am on a tuesday! We got a buggie and did 7 holes in just over 30 mins. Helped that we both hit it straight and true :)

Cost wise every pro is different, mine is pretty expensive, it comes out at about £35 as part of a series of 6 lessons.

Wort every penny IHMO!

oh snap, i had my first ever on yesterday played 5 holes over 90 minutes at home track and allowed for most if not all the various permutations of trouble that i normally get into....very very useful!

I have had them before but to be honest didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. I know my pro very well anyway (including socially) and so I tend to treat it more as a mates round than a lesson even though I know what he's saying is right
