I am busy for the next 6 months and will play less golf

My club is paid via a monthly DD and is easy in easy out and I have considered leaving to save approx. £350

I could then come back when I have more time, the problem is
1. when I do want a game in the next few months I would have to go to a pay and play
2. I would not have a playing partner as they all play at the current club so I would have to play solo

Not sure what to do for best

Are you sure that, what in effect is your annual subs, can just be stopped like that ? Winter is a time where less golf is played anyway, be silly to throw away club membership and maybe have a problem at the start of next season.

The great thing about the club is you can join and pay monthly throughout the year and leave and return if it suits you

No issues at all coming back not sure about playing as guest instead I will check this

I play in the weekly swindle normally at a set time and day, this is when my buddies play too

if you'll only play 10 times in 6 months is it worth £35 a round
if you'll only play twice in the next 6 months is it worth £175 a round

Just insert your own number of rounds and if you're happy with the cost answer then stay, if not then cancel :)

Thanks Slab makes sense

You've also got h/cap issues to consider, sure it won't be a problem
In your swindles but if you leave it any longer than 6 months and want an active h/cap you'll be starting over, most likely from same point but would still have to submit 3 cards.

indeed - a factor to be considered

1.the minute you leave you no longer have a CONGU handicap
2. if you join a club within 6 months you will be re-allocated your previous handicap
3. if you join after 6 months you will be allocated a handicap based on 3 or more cards and your previous playing record as decided by the clubs handicap committee.

For me it wouild depend simply on whether I wanted to be a member rather than actually how much I played. If I can afford to py - I'd pay (almost regardless of how much I play and hence value for money in terms of cost / round). I ie being a memebr of a golf club full stop - living close to it I use it even when not playing. So I might go there today for an hour to get away from work (I iwork from home) - have a coffee - maybe bite to eat.

If you don't feel the same about being a member and the club supports what you are thinking of doing - then go for it.

Does your club do that for all members, Can you just come and go as you all please?

Yes all members can leave and come back no joining fees, the reason i play there as its good value without the joining fee burden

Many of its members are in the forces so they needed to have a more relaxed approach but it seems to work well most of the time and membership levels stay pretty consistent

Ah I see, I would have thought financial suicide but with a course so close to a military base they have to be flexible.

how on earth does the club do it's financial forecasting?
I am guessing they don't as they cant plan anything, I reckon they must be running month to month. Poor if you ask me but that might be the only way. I don't know what course it is but you must have a fair amount of members that stay for the year and a small percentage of members that come and go. I guess they don't have many staff if they have no idea how much they are taking month to month.

Not being the harbinger of doom, but even though you are paying month by month haven't you entered into an agreement to pay an annual amount and wouldn't the club therefore be entitled to ask for the balance if you left? If you had paid your annual fees at the start of a season you wouldn't get a refund for leaving.

That's how it works at my place, you enter into a finance arrangement and I guess it could harm your creditworthiness too. I pay annually and would be peeved if people could come and go by just terminating their direct debit.

Some clubs do there own thing in house and do offer the flexible membership. What you guys are on about are the likes off fairway credit who pay the club up front and if you don't pay them then they claw the money back from the golf club. I am guessing that the club in Suffolk that is been mentioned do there own thing in house.

Although while some clubs struggle to even have an operational website of any standard or even open the clubhouse when there's an AM in the time, I'm not sure how competently they could deal with members in a failure to pay scenario
