Hi all, after playing on Thursday and again yesterday, course was very wet, never really truthfully enjoyed.Wondering how many on here play in the winter ? Or if you play only in the summer ,what do you do over the winter time ? All replies appreciated.

See the other thread on commitment to improvement, I've always played a

Winter, but given the state of most courses I'm pulling myself off the course for the next month at least

I always have high hopes of playing through the winter but realistically its just becomes a chore in December and January. I'll start getting out regular again next month then roll on April

Play all throughout the year regardless of the weather as long as the course is open

I can't imagine packing my clubs away in November and getting them out again in April....
It would take weeks to get my swing, touch and feel going again, maybe by about August....great, another 2-3 months and that's it again....
Course Open..?
Game on..

walking round a muddy field in freezing cold wet conditions and hairy (or temp) greens aint my idea of golf

Played again today and had a good round with my regular partner and his nephew. Played Stableford and I won with 41 pts :D

I play most weekends in winter, my home course is links so only closed when we have snow.

I enjoy winter, we always have a good laugh even though the games are hotly contested as they are got money.

funnily enough I think I played more days in winter 2 year ago than most of the summer!

I agree at the moment with all the rain we have had its gonna be a slog. Once it dries up a bit theres nowt better than playing in cold sunny conditions with a few layers on

whilst I haven't put the clubs away I can't see the point of playing just for the sake of it

it will only take a reasonable week of weather to resolve though :)

then again I'm getting through the outstanding tasks and will be able to take even more advantage in spring/summer etc :whoo:

I love/hate winter golf, I love getting out and practising shots I wouldn't otherwise play but I hate that we have to play non-qualifiers on a short course. I also hate days when I have to look out the window and think about the golf I could be playing when the weather sucks

i love winter golf, you get what you get. hit a fat/thin shot and you dont get nothing out of it. no balls running through fairways or into bunkers and if you strike it poorly you dont get a lucky run onto the green. imo if you score well in winter golf its because you played well.

In previous seasons I've played no matter what the weather. If the course was closed we've tracked down a course that was open. If the course is closed I'm having a lie in or hitting the range. If its lashing down, no thanks I've better things to do. Other than that I'll be up there most weekends.

I play whenever I can as work and family mean I can't always get out to play during the summer I'm happy to play through the winter. I love the fact that my course is either open or closed. They don't do temp greens so if it's not playable it'll be shut to protect it rather than have any temps. Played on Monday in what can only be described as marginal conditions and really enjoyed being out in the sunshine with my dad. Stood on the 18th tee having played as badly as I have in a long time knowing I needed a bogey 4 to break 100 for the round and was actually happy that I managed it. Even though I played badly it was one of my more enjoyable rounds as I hit some really good shots and those are the ones I'll remember more than the other 85. It was also my 3rd card for my handicap. I now have cards of 82, 86 and 99 to put in against a Par of 71 and SSS of 68. 17 shots between my best and worst. Has anyone had a greater difference in their 3 cards they put in for handicap?

No thanks. If I was lucky enough to be a member at a links or well drained heathland course it would probably be different but on a parkland course; no thank you.

December and January are for the range or short game practice. Golf, for me, is for pleasure not endurance.

Cannot see any reason not to play in the winter, for me it is a great chance to learn how to improvise due to conditions.

Only thing i will say is one of the courses has been is great condition with few temps

This is the first year that I have not been able to play most weeks regularly , I don't mind if it is wet underfoot ( but not raining) and if it's windy I'm not too bothered. I use any spare time when I can't play looking at reference books and trying to understand why I have a bad shot ( there is always a reason) and what I have to do to rectify it.
