You'll know the scenario. You've played your match and are through to next round. Your prospective oppo's can't settle a date until last minute. Commitments scupper your prospects of fitting your next match into the required timeslot.

Is it possible to play each of them in advance of their match and use the outcome as the result of your match against whichever of them goes through?

Even if it was, and I'm sure it isn't allowed, why would anyone play the previous round knowing that they are already going out even if they win?

You can come to an agreement over who will concede the match on any basis you wish - it's not binding within the rules but it's not against the rules.

I know it's a tangent but it's worrying that you can't make any date within the fully allocated timescale set; suggests that the schedule is too tight.

Personally, I think it's a waste of time because the one you beat will concede the other match to the other player so you will have to beat them both; only a worthwhile exercise if you are the one so or committed that you can't make a next round match - in which case they will probably not agree and claim a bye instead!

The wonderful world of knockouts!

I've played in knockouts where I have played my first round match early, then the other side of the draw haven't, and I know i have very few dates available in month ahead
I've contacted them both and provisionally arranged a date for 2nd round match so that once they have a result, there is no time wasting.

Edit - As duncan says, either the time scale allowed is too short, or you have entered a knockout knowing that you will have no dates to offer during the reasonable playing period.

I was drawn against a pair of ladies who between them were away on holiday for the entire 6 weeks bar one day. Guess who had to rearrange her diary to accommodate them?

Cant see how it would work .. as Duncan mentioned

Backwoodsman v winner of Duncan & Bladeplayer

Backwoodsman plays both in advance , but plays & beats bladeplayer first match , because im playing rubbish of course :D

what point is there in bladeplayer playing against Duncan when im already eliminated in the next round .. ?

I give Duncan a walkover ,

Id prefer to have played Duncan & maybe get bit of practice in or be playing better before the second round

Ta all.

I appreciate the oddities of it but was only wondering about the "legality" of it. I accept the practicalities are somewhat ludicrous. You probably don't want to know but I woke up this morning having dreamt I was on holiday in Scotland, had entered a knock out competition, and had to get all my rounds in before I came home. Freud doesn't know the half of it...

On other hand, some of our time intervals are a bit tight and I'd noticed a bit back, that if perchance I got as far as a semi-final, a holiday would knock out three weekends & I'd only have one day to play it if the other quarters ran up to the last day. But I've solved it the easy way.
