I think I know the answer to this but ...

Am currently on 18.4 hc and playing in a strokeplay comp on Saturday, then a match on Sunday. Saturday result won't be posted till Monday. If I play poorly and don't make buffer, I'll get 0.1 and go up to 18.5/19

So would I play off 19 on sunday? - it's a foursome and a rise to me would a difference to shots given. Given that CSS can only have total variance of 4 its calculable within limits.

(Will address the issue of a cut if it happens - would need to be a big cut to make difference going downwards)

You take your score as per the SSS (until the competition result is announced) and apply any cuts that you may be owed.

But, as far as I know, you do NOT raise your handicap from the SSS, you must wait for CSS for that. If in doubt, always play from the lower handicap.

If you play well you must self adjust down based on sss. But you don't self adjust up if you have shocker.

You should adjust down if there is a possibility of a cut but you don't adjust up as the comp could go to Reductions only.

Unles the results from saturday are published before you Tee off Sunday you should play off your officially published handicap, I believe. ie 18.4 for both days, regardless of how you play Saturday.

No you have to cut yourself against SSS if you play well regardless of results published or not but you cannot claim any potential 0.1 only the H/c sec can add that.

Just to be crystal clear......this is wrong. As others have said, adjust down from SSS if you play well, otherwise you are off 18 until results published.

I know this to be the case because I've read it on here, but, our pro is adamant you play off what's on the board (ie you don't self adjust) as is one of my regular partners. So my question is what's the actual rule and is it definite or is it up to each club?

You are required to apply any potential HC cut to yourself based on SSS of the course

Rule is you have to adjust as per 20.11 on page 39 of congu manual (assuming youre in England)

Apologies for bad wording, shouldn't of put the last 6 words, was replying directly to OP and him asking if he could increase his H/C on the sunday after bad round sat.

Just thought you might like to know...

Play rubbished on Saturday - well below buffer.
Played off 18 on Sunday and got trounced.
Playing off 19 wouldn't have helped.
Got my point 1 today

Next weekend is another day...
