I've slipped a couple of discs in my back and will be having a back operation to correct them next week. So no golf for me for a while. Has anyone else had a similar operation and played golf again? If so, how long after the op did you eventually start playing?

Not my lower back. But the top 2 disc's in my neck. Did not have a op as such. Due to the high chance, of the rest of my life in a wheelchair. But they cleared out the lose bits of disc. So the bone could fuse together. Did not play for 2 years pain to great. Infact, only just started playing again these last 3 months. I have to fill myself up with Tramadol before I start. Use only 3/4 swing at the most. Its ok whilst I am playing. But can hardly turn my head for 2 days after. Not going to stop playing now I've started again. With a bit of luck it will improve. May give the really cold weather a miss though. Will have to see how it goes. Hope that this does not sound too doom and gloom. Because I do not look at it that way lol.

Had a Discectomy in 2006 before I started playing Golf properly

The operation and recovery were a great success, but even then I guess it would have been 6 months before picking up a club, if I had been playing.

It is important to get your core muscles in top order as they will help prevent future problems

So consider exercise, gym or even pilates.

Good luck mate, hope it sorts itself out
