Playing from the temporary greens makes it easier to me.

I've played three rounds from temporary mats in the past month and shot much better than my hc going down to 12.4 from 14.1 at the end of November.

I guess every course is different but where I play I think the temporary mats make some holes much much easier. The par 3s for example are way shorter as the white. yellow and red tees are the same.

Also my driving seems to me much more accurate. Maybe because the conditions are the same of the driving range where I practice the most.

So in general yes, the ball rolls less on the fairway but I guess winter rules + mats make the whole lot much easier.

Your driving may be because you are teeing up at the same height each time due to the matts?

I know I often have a problem with sinking the tee too far into the grass when i'm teeing off.

Are you sure your club should still be playing qualifiers? The permitted reduction in course length is 100 yards to allow competitions to continue to be qualifiers.

Surely it depends if the new length is a measured course, and has it's own ss? As in you can play a comp off whites, or yellows, but the ss will be different.

Winter is diddy golf to me. Nothing more than keeping a swing going, getting some fresh air and trying to socialise. Nothing more.

Yes, but you can't just reduce the length by over 100 yards and set your own new SSS. It would have to be properly assessed and set by the Area Authority. The maximum reduction would apply to all tees - white, yellow and red.
