Playing drunk/hungover- is it worth it?

So yesterday played Texas scramble pro day comp and was absolutely awful... It's the 2nd time this year I've played after a heavy night on the sauce and like last time have said.... Never again!!!

Actually started worrying about my PP's running out of drives and would be playing mine out the bushes but back 9 started hitting a bit better(presumably after the alcohol had vacated)

Just not enjoyable for me

What's your thoughts on it? Suck it up and play or a total waste of time?
 
It depends if you are away on a jolly or whatever.
As some of the guys that have been on ICC weekends away, you do it once and learn haha (probably still drunk and blistering heat and difficult links golf does not go together), Ill still sit and drink guinness all night long but no more party buses into the not so wee hours the next day for me!
If its a local match and carries some importance then I suppose you need to weigh that up the night before, the next morning its a bit late and you should probably get a lift there and at least try.
 
It would depend on the person i suppose.

My best round is still the one i played at Western Gailes hammered, level par gross off the back tee's. my only ever exp of playing pissed.

i find the secret is not to sober up;)
 
Played Royal Dornoch last year on the forum meet, still feeling leathered. Got in at about 3/3.30am and was back up at about 7:30am to get in the car (not me driving).

Sun was shining, a beautiful day and on the first tee I was shaking, nowt to do with nerves, just still pie-eyed I think. Smashed a hybrid as straight as I ever have done off the tee and went on to have a decent enough round consuming 1.5l of water and nibbling on one of those massive slow release energy bar things. Worked for me - had a pint as soon as I got back in the clubhouse sitting as far away from my PPs as possible as they actually got leathered DURING the 18 holes on whiskey.

Doubt I'd do it again, was catching up with a long-time ex-girlfriend who I hadn't seen for years and we had an absolute ball. Did exactly the same the previous night before we played Castle Stuart although wasn't as bad for that.

Will I do it again, ask me again after our Ireland trip next week :whistle:. If I do, then I'll reap what I have sewn.
 
I find golf is to precise a sport to play with a hangover. Sports where you run around is okay as precision is not key, a 10yd pass in football can be 10° off and still get to the player. The same amount off a drive can be OOB. Blimey, a golf ball can also look awfully small as well. I leave it alone if I am playing or finish early and go onto water.
 
I didn't get to bed til 5 the other sat morning after a canny session, tee'd off at 9.40 - played the first 5 holes 2 over which is fantastic for me and then it went severely downhill when I started to sober up
 
Have played some of my best golf while still under the influence... its when it starts to leave the body and the sobering begins that it all goes pearshaped.
 
I've never had the pleasure of trying to play whilst under the influence as I always have to drive to the course so I don't drink hardly at all, as I'm up and off 7am on most comp days
 
I've been on work outings where folk drink around the course, and I've never been a fan. Never been drunk on the course, or hungover. It's already quite the sport for secretly drying you up, I'd hate the though of making it worse. Fair play to those who can though lol.

Brings new meaning to the term, Drunk Driving.
 
I used to play every single Sunday in a state back home. Some good some bad rounds.

These days I prefer to be sober. A few holes beats sitting around feeling sorry for yourself at home.
 
When we go away on golf weekends we usually have a few hip flasks and other alcoholic 'energy drinks' for the first round we play. We're not very drunk but slightly merry. But at my age I can't do a heavy night and enjoy the round the next day. Call me a killjoy but having shelled out on the golf break where we play nice courses, I don't want to not enjoy the experience of playing a course because I have a raging hangover. I can get drunk with mates most weekends to be honest, but I play very nice courses very rarely, so I want to get the most out of it.
 
i played in club champs a couple of years ago, day 1 I'd had an early night, no drink, got up and went for a warm up and shot 6 or 7 over my handicap. Went out that night for a birthday, got in at 3am, got to the golf club for day 2, teeing off around 9am swaying from side to side, not swinging to fast as i'd have passed out.. shot a nett 67..
 
I'm out most Saturday nights and our comps are Sunday mornings, so played comps with a fuzzy head is a regular occurrence for me. To be honest my handicap would probably be lower if we have mid week qualifying comps to play in, but fact of the matter is we dont and Saturdays are for meeting up with the lads or wining/dining the Mrs....
 
Makes little difference to me. I like a beer on a Friday after work, no pint tastes better than that first one of a Friday night after a hard week. I also suffer from 'beer momentum' on a Friday and that one or two often becomes quite a few more and so playing with a Hangover on Saturday morning is not unusual. Played some great rounds whilst feeling rough and some awful ones as well. Come to think of it, I think that I have only played in 1 GM event without a hangover, the worst ones being the GM organised trip to Hillside and the Centenary Final at Forest of Arden.
 
Once (before I was club golfer) played at St Pierre in a corporate day. Left the bar around 4.30 and was on the tee at 8.45. Felt dire and scored 6 on the front 9 but 19 on the back nine. As it was 4-ball best two to count my good back 9 meant I came in on a lot of holes and we ended up winning second prize. Still have the cut glass tankard as a memento and when ever I look at it I feel a bit dodgy still.
 
Definately not worth it. Played 36 holes at Royal Birkdale on a corporate freebie having been up to 4am - my hangover ruined the day's golf for me.
 
Played golf on my stag do and was 1 over after 5 for the best start to a round of golf I have ever had. I was trying so hard not to throw up and breathe I was playing really well. Started to sober up though and it went rapidly downhill.
