Playing combinations

Draw lots to divide into four pairs. Each pair then plays the other three pairs. Everyone gets to go round with everyone - although you do get the company of one person for the duration. You can have a singles comp and a pairs comp over the three rounds.

Number all player 1-8.
First round 1,2,3,4, And. 5,6,7,8
Second round. 1,2,5,6. And. 3,4,7,8
Last round. 1,3,5,7. And. 2,4,6,8

Play doubles and as far as I can see everyone will have a different partner every round. Bit of combined stable-ford to over the three rounds.

Few will only play with everyone once but I think it's the best you can do with three rounds.

Yes I'm up early on a Saturday and abit bored

wouldn't this be a better solution to ensure everyone plays with everyone else at least once?

in practice the paired solution backwoodsman proposed would be my choice

If you're so clever Duncan, can you do 12 players over 4 rounds, all to play with every other player.

Your way has 6,8 and 1,2 together every round? Don't think my way had anyone play together 3 times? And everyone plays with everyone at least once. Might be wrong though.
