What is the likely hood of a hacker (25hc) playing better with players clubs as apposed to chunky cavity back game improvers?
The reason I ask, I bought a tm cb forged 6 iron. A club that looking on youtube I have no right to hit well. Mainly for the training grip as I suffer from a weak grip.
I took along to the range the 6 and my own 7, the difference was night and day. Nothing weak and short. Proper shots, arrow straight and really good dispersion.

The only real thing I can put it down to is the grip change, but it really didn't feel/look so much different.

Having a friendly knock tomorrow so it going in the bag to have a real test. Maybe just maybe...

If you feel confident with the TM CB in your hand then there is no reason why you cant hit it and play well with it

I believe there is no hard fast rule of what clubs a certain HC can and cant use - The CB's for example will give you good forgiveness still whilst also having that "players type" feel with a nice thin top line

GI clubs are a relatively new innovation, we are lucky to have more choice now, that said its not against the rules for a higher h/c player to use 'better player' clubs, if they work for you, happy days !! :)

This "Players" tag can be a misnomer to a degree. I have a set of the TM Tour Preferred (08) irons and had them while I was still a high teen player and hit them well enough. They have a small cavity and so give a degree of forgiveness as does my current I25 irons. If you can hit them well enough and the bad ones aren't penalised too badly then why not. However if you are losing a lot of distance then perhaps you need a rethink until your striking becomes more consistent

As much as technology in GI clubs can be a benefit etc I think that if you like the look and feel of a club that's worth a lot too. I play bladeish irons - my handicap would suggest I shouldn't be but they are the best for me at the moment.

MY father in law has just started playing and found best results with a set of Mizuno MP14's with X flex shafts!!!!

I'd agree with the post above. You have to like what you're looking down at. Big GI irons give me a bit of confidence when i'm not striking it well, but on balance they're not the nicest looking irons. Confidence is key. All the YouTube vids (and written reviews) that suggest such and such a club is for players in a particular handicap range is nonsense. Go with what works for you.

No reason why you can't use any club, if it works for you then it's good.
The taylormade CB are aimed at mid players so no reason not to use them.
One other thought is maybe the training grip helped?

Thanks for the replies. No reason not to go for them then  pm sent.

Yeah was also thinking the training grip helped, if this is so I may have the whole set done in them

If the 'training grip' is the one that is shaped so that fingers and thumbs slot into the correct place, then it will be against the rules to play with! Grips have to be predominantly round, though a 'reminder' is allowed and rules for putter Grips are different too.

Interesting debate, I'm thinking of going the other way to more forgiving. Upgrading my i15's after returning to the game and toying with something more forgiving despite not really having a problem with the i15's. Cant remember who said it, was a pro or possibly even our editor said that too many amateurs don't take advantage of the forgiveness available

Make me an offer I can't refuse

There are lots of reasons why you may be a 25hcp. You may struggle to find the middle of the clubface or you may have the worst short game in the world but strike the ball solidly. All sorts of reasons. But if you can strike the ball well then there is no reason why you shouldn't use 'players' clubs.

If you are happy with the strike you are getting then why not take a chance? Just hang on to your current clubs in case it doesn't work out and you want to change back.
