Presidents Day - and i cannot believe how nervous i was.
Fisrt hole hit the green 2 putted and thought ay-oop this is ok.
Duffed the next drive and scored a 7
Lost 3 balls on the next and I cannot believe how bad i felt, embarassed i guess.
The game gradually improved until the 9th when i nailed superb drive, chiped on and putted for a birdie.

The back nine was much better - scored on each hole at least.

Ended up with 26 points and thats my first card in towards my handicap.

I went through all teh emotions yesterday from loving golf, to never wanting to hold a club in company again, to loving it again.

Wish i had played in more earlier in teh season now.....

Comps are ace. Been playing them for about 9 months now and my golf is improving with it. So important to make the correct shot in a comp as opposed to a bounce game. Every shot counts!

Good fun though.

as i usually play before work, i am generally a solo player (sadly). The problem with that is you get a bit too relaxed over poor shots - the comp really made me think about the consequnces more. I guss one could say i played the percentages.
Cant wait for teh next one!!

Once you get into it and maybe once you know what your handicap is going to be and therefore how many shots you have to play with it will become easier. You'll still get nervous on the 1st but you'll learn not to chase after shots when you've had a bad hole and where and when to take a risk and when to play safe and chip back out

Thanks Homer i appreciate your response there - I guess you are right about the handicap situation. I fully expect to be about 22, but i felt i HAD to play the same as the 11 handicappers i was with. Once i realised i ought to use the shots i had i was ok.
I have to say i loved it.....

I played my first competition in May and have a few under my belt now and have my handicap of 22. I was a bit nervous to start with, but really enjoy it now and always look forward to the next one. In my last one I had a couple of Birdies........but also two nines!! Keeps you on your toes.
