Unfortunately, I have had to pull the plug on the proposed trip to Sunningdale next March.
I received the following email from the club whilst I was away in Cornwall...

"Dear Robert,
I'm sorry to have to inform you that the committee have decided, due to the timing of the Olympics, the major course works next year will be brought forward to the last 2 weeks of March. This obviously means that your provisional booking will need to be re-scheduled. The last week for bookings during the winter months is therefore the week beginning 12th March. Please let me know what you would like to do and I will be happy to assist in any way I can. I look forward to hearing from you. Kind regards David"

On the basis that a days golf had been planned, these new date restrictions make it impossible to fit 36 holes in due to the fact that the clocks don't go forward until March 25th next year.
Apologies to all concerned, but as you can see...it's out of my hands lads.
Rob

Bugger, I was looking forward to that.

:(

So was I mate. But it would be impossible to get 36 holes in during early March.
You'd think because of the situation they would extend the offer they were making until mid April wouldn't you? But then we would be putting on hollow tined greens.

I know it's not quite the same but 27 holes could be an option - especially if people have forked out for accommodation and can't get their money back.

That's what I did the first time I played there. 9 on the New and 18 on the Old. Very nice it was too!

Sad times indeed.

As Rob2 said, thanks, as ever, for all your efforts in trying to get it organised Smiffy. It's always appreciated.

Having said that, it's probably a blessing in disguise for me, having just forked out a chunk of cash for a new car!

If enough people are still interested I can certainly enquire as to whether a 27 hole option would be available. But at what cost, and would the lads who were planning to come down from up North still want to come if they were only going to play half of one of the courses???

Thanks Rob.

Is there anywhere else in the same area good enough? The Berkshire?

That way the guys who have already booked accommodation can keep their booking?

No, not RA, Homer!!! ;)

I'd highly recommend Camberley Heath. Not necessarily held in the same regard as Sunningdale, but since you'll be in the area, it offers very good value golf and the course is superb.

B*gger! Shame that, Rob.

I'd be up for 9 on the new and 18 on the old. Especially as I know you can negotiate a great deal on that basis! ;)

Come on, we all know the e-mail started "Dear Knobert"!! :D

Sorry to hear about the cancellation guys. Camberley Heath is a cracking course if you do end up looking for an alternate venue.

Maybe the people at Sunningdale have been reading the GM Forum and came to the conclusion that the people on here are not the sort that they want at their club??? :D

thats a real shame. I'm happy to go with the consensus. 27 holes would be my preference but relocation to berkshire, st georges hill or lydd would be ok.

I hope not, I am booked to play there in a couple of weeks time!
