Just listening to the radio and they were discussing people reclining their seats on planes.

For me I never recline my seat as it eats into the space of the person behind me and I don't want to make their journey any less pleasant than it already is, I know how much it irritates me to lose leg space and have a seat back shoved into my face making the tray unusable.

On the other hand I understand that you've paid for your seat and want to be as comfortable as possible.

what are your thoughts?

If I've paid for a seat that reclines, I'm entitled to recline it. If reclining my seat impacts upon the space of the person behind they shouldn't have booked that seat.

I only fly business so I'm not sure what you are talking about. Surely you can change all seats into a flat bed??;)

I agree. Nothing to stop them reclining either (unless they are the usual Mr Lardygutbucketneededtobooktwoseats I usually get lumbered next to)

Could soon not be a problem as I hear that a number of airlines are considering converting all economy seats to fixed/upright positions.

Personally travel economy plus so less of a problem.

Last few flights I have been on, in recent years, have all been for holidays and none of the seats had the recline button on the budget airlines.

Can't help wondering if there's a correlation between Etiquette on a flight and Etiquette on the golf course.

Do players who avoid slow play but let faster players play through also avoid reclining seats so as not to affect the other persons experience of the flight.

And do those who say 'I've paid for a recliner so I'll recline if I want to' also say 'I've paid my membership / green-fee so I'll play at whatever damn speed I like and everyone else can just wait!'

Know a few people who definitely fit.

What a educational answer , i wasnt aware you could book or request a seat behind a seat that doesnt recline , ya learn something new every day , well i just did any how , that the way forward for me .. Ta for the heads up

Personally i let mine back a fraction so its just off vertical , i never recline it fully

Only fly Premium Economy or Business class with Cathay Pacific to Hong Kong , Malaysia or Philippines so does not affect me but local flights its bad as people just do it , they dont ask 1st or check , fact of life today

What about the ones who let their kids scream and run around the place. Bet they don't repair pitch marks, and they use castle tees.

Like bladeplayer I recline the seat only a couple of inches just to take the edge off

Studies have shown that those who recline all the way, without acknowledging the person behind, are unsuited to air travel

I would have thought the biggest gripe on this is towards the folks who "don't even check their mirrors" just press the button and bang maximum recline without due care and attention towards the passenger sat behind.
I have had this while rummaging in the seat pocket and the person in front has just pressed the button and launched themselves backwards to assist maximum recline: TV screen right in the mush! Most recently on Virgin, in Premium Economy dinner was served the chap in front I think must have just inhaled the whole lot in the time the cabin was still being served, and just as I am picking up my glass of red wine his seat back is coming back towards me with gusto right on the intended flight path of my glass, thankfully ATC had delayed the pushback of my glass from the tray just enough to avoid a very messy near miss!!

Isn't the right answer to recline your seat if the person behind you has. So you can't feel guilty about invading their space as they have already invaded somebody elses?

if they recline I simply ask politely if they mind if I do it. Most of the time I dont.

I flew Jet2 recently- tons of legroom and easy check in and baggage reclaim t'other side, big thumbs up from me.

Not all issues on the plane are to do with reclining seats and invading there space. I have had bigger problems with the person sat behind me not the one in front. Me, Missis tash and another couple had a holiday in Sri Lanka, you had to stop off first in the Maldives. A Sri Lankan woman behind Missis tash must of thought that her touchscreen TV had to be pressed with the might of a Bugner jab, every time she got up she grabbed hold of Missis tashyboys chair and hauled herself up. After about 5 hours my wife's head went when she was woke up for the umpteenth time. She turned round and gave her both barrels. The woman looked aghast with a look only ever seen on a premier ship player when breaking a fellow pros leg and saying "what me".

things slightly improved after that. However when we landed at the. Maldives, half of the plane got off and the passengers from Maldives to Sri Lanka got on. A bloke and his wife had a five minute heated discussion with the woman behind my wife. It transpires she had been in the wrong seats and should of been sat in the empty row behind her. My wife's face was a priceless picture. I had to go to the toilet I was laughing so much

Interesting you mention Jet2...my cousin owns a company that manufactures airline seating, and Jet2 are one of his customers http://www.aircraftinteriorsinternational.com/news.php?NewsID=11476

I wonder if you were on a plane with his seating. They give more legroom, have less parts and are lighter than "normal" seating

possinbly, it looked like the picture and was far more comfortable than 'normal' cattle market airline seats. Made the journey pleasant and more people stayed seated I feel than the norm of having to walk around as the blood has stopped from the waist down:rofl:
