Took the plunge and got a Sonos Arc and Sub. The system is mental. Haven’t got around to get back speakers to make a full cinema.

The Arc itself is brilliant. Today I added the Sub.. the effect while watching Top Gun is absolutely mental.

Now my Question.. Where should the sub be placed in the room. Should it be near the TV next to the Arc or at the other end where the sofas are ?? I was checking out an audio specialist and they built a cabinet near the TV saying Bass needs to be felt not seen.

Low end isn’t anywhere near as directional as mid/hi frequencies, so in that regard it’s a lot less of an issue.

However, that being said, I’d put it with (wherever possible) the main/front speakers and keep a single “source” for the audio to emanate from.

Home hifi isn’t really my bag, my system is a pair of whopping great old floor standing units. But I’ve built enough arena/theatre PA systems and the science behind moving air is the same!

I was a bit surprised that the guys had built a media unit where the sub was on the floor in front of the telly but it was enclosed in a cabinet. The cabinet itself had slats and some bits of of damping/packaging material inside

Currently our sub is behind the sofa and it can shake the sofa when the sub is turned on to full and I played some ‘sub test’ songs off Spotify
