I had a 'different' experience on Thursday in a foursomes match for my club. quite funny really.

4 down after 5, we started to gel and found ourselves 1up on the last hole. My playing partner hit an average drive into the right rough leaving my 180yds to the pin, the flag on the bottom tier of a two tiered green, about 15ft over the pond that surrounds it.

knowing a 175yd shot would be wet, i erred on the side of caution and hit 1 more club (knowing adrenaline was pumping) - i hit it good, i hit it very good.

It pitched on the clubhouse roof 220yds away! it had carried the veranda, and patio area that was full of people.

This isnt the end of the story....luckily it bounced back in bounds, ending up in the bunker of the 9th green some 40yds away. My playing partner hit a great shot under the trees leaving me roughly and 80ft from the pin on the fringe. I now had a putt across two tiers, knowing a 2 putt was our only chance of halving the hole, allowing us to win the match.

anyhow, i rolled in to 2inches (cue applause from the clubhouse) for a gimme 5.

Our opponents subsequently 3 putted from 40ft. handing us the match.

obviosuly i was the talk of the clubhouse after (for the iron approach, not the putt:D)

The no1 rule in foursomes is never say sorry.

Sorry was the only thing i said for about 30mins - playing partner and others :D

this might bring it to life -

Red - Pin
Black - where my ball ended up
Yellow - where he played to and i putted stiff.

I play Pine Ridge GC in Surrey quite often, the 18th has the green sat dead in front of the clubhouse (as do so many golf clubs). I always worry about my approach to the green as thinning it only a few foot further than the green puts it in people hitting range!!

Have ended up in our stud bar in a box of crisps on our 18th :D

I still remember the Sec at Murrayfield returning my ball to my uncle from the first floor room in the clubhouse when I had put it through the back of their 18th...This was at the end of my first ever week of golf :(

'Clubbing it' was the process of applying the club to the ball for me in those days - how far it went a product of how well struck more than the club used!

I have never hit a club house, pro shop or parked buggies in my life! Except once, when i did all 3 in one shot...

Better not have this much luck tomorrow Sam, i have high hopes of me having not played for 6 weeks taking a fiver off you!!

I used to hit the pro shop when I was at Stoke Rochford at least once a month when I started out. Easily in range for a drive with a big slice.

Don't mention buggies. ... Once hit one of those drives (that you can never find into the wind when you need it) only to have a buggy appear over the ridge coming towards us - straight through the top right of the perspex like a bullet from about 180 yds. Shout? We just had time to start screaming but they had no time to respond or react at all.

Being the organiser of the corporate day, in which the helpers were heading over to ask me a question, I had an interesting time in discussion with the professional about the damage!

And wondered whether you belonged there?

The patio area on the pub at Silvermere has been known to be a little dodgy - saw it happen once! Now somewhat protected!

I played nervously on to that green last year - my tee shot on the 18th ended up on the downslope a foot from the lake edge. The risk of a thinned wedge went through the roof...

my excuse tommorow is that i snapped my 3 wood so will have new shaft to try! I like Donnington though, should play well :D

once watched a chap tee off from our 13th (which plays away from the clubhouse) he thinned it really badly, it hit the edge of one of those metal based winter mats (serving as the ladies tee) rebounded straight over their heads and on to the clubhouse roof behind them.

he took it in good sport though, as I walked off i could hear them falling about laughing

The clubhouse at West Hill is rather close to the 18th green. Perhaps I will not sit on the patio there on H4H day after all.:mmm:

That is a scary place, it is asking for a knifed wedge! Thats why i take the slicers route and come in from the pro shop/1st tee area, less chance of killing someone!
