Pitch and put a.k.a. Par 3 course

When I dont have time to get to play golf at my course. I play on the pitch and putt at a course near me..and it got me thinking, is this good practice for a real round?

Very good for your short game yes.

Absolutely. My son has his lessons at a local club. I regularly play their 9 hole par 3 whilst he's being taught. The holes range from 145yd - 90 yd, average 110 yds, the greens are like postage stamps and all on a slope. Great practice for the short game - I chipped in twice for birdies out there on Sunday....

When i was a kid we had a 18hole par 3 course at the end of our road, it always shut at 5, so after school it was dinner time, then 8i, 9i, pw, sand iron and off to the par 3. used to lose my self for hours over there.

yea it is good for your short game , i will say tho there is a difference here between par3 & p&p, the P&P are all short holes & can develop a wrist flick rather than a fluent swing ,proper par 3 is good , you get to work on your mid irons aswell ..

I have found that the trouble with my local par 3 course is that, at 95 yds plus, a full swing is required on every hole. You only get to practice short-game shots from within the c.15-75 yard scoring zone if you miss the green by miles.

You don't have to play every hole from the tee though. My course has a great 12 hole par 3 attached and if I want to put my short game to the test I can think of all sorts of places to drop a few balls and try different escapes from.

Excellent point. You certainly don't have to play the course as designed.
