Winning competitions is great. The accompanying vouchers invariably convince you to review your bag set up. So today I went out on my lunch break to have a look at wedges and drivers. Quicky decided that a new Driver can wait as the current one is going very well and I'm still improving with it. On the wedge front I love the look and weight of the new Titleist SM4s in black nickel: simply stunning and if RichardC doesn't go for this colour tomorrow I'll be shocked! However, I wanted to have a look at the Ping Tour wedges but they didnt have any out. Anyone tried them? I know it will NRA personal choice but curious to hear of other people's experiences

Bloomin nora is that tomorrow already, the lucky sod! Ive had my AP2s and MD wedges for quite a while now, I am starting to look around too. A guy in my fourball won a new ping wedge last sunday in our internal society's presidents day and I have to say it looked nice, not sure on the notch out of the hozel though.

:D must resist.....

T|He ping wedges are really nice but all seem to have fairly high bounce options (from my limited viewing) and are something I would seriously consider.

I'm cured sure! Didn't you see my 'how did it not go in' thread, same round had a great lob over 60 foot high trees. Things are all starting to come together.

Just about to buy Vokey's to replace my Ping wedges. I don't doubt they're good for some but I can't get away with them around the greens since changing from Callaway irons in the summer.

Ive got them and really like them. I had Bridgestone J33s previously and I like the heavier head in the Pings (or so it feels to me). Both of mine are 12 on the bounce (52 & 56 loft). The same bounce hasnt caused me a problem.
I also think that if you asked the men from Ping nicely you could have less bounce on them. I am sure I saw some bounce options/grinds on their website.

My experience with them is limited as I only had a 60 degree tour wedge for a short time. Basically it was the longest 60 degree wedge I have ever used and went probably 20% further than my Cleveland one with a full shot. That said, I could not chip with it as there wasn't much feel and I had no distance control with it around the greens, again when compared to my Cleveland.

Depends what you want them for. For full shots, they are long and true. For chipping, I don't rate them.

The one I had is probably still in my study somewhere. You can have it if you want it? Not sure what it is worth though...

No worries. Having said that, I have tried Vokeys and didn't like them either. I found the spin milled face grabs the ball too much and it was tricky for me to get the ball up in the air with them. They are of course brilliant for generating check on the ball and if you chip that way and can do it every time with good distance control then they are lovely.

I can't do that though as I prefer to float my chips a bit more.

I have Mizuno RAW wedges. Not sure how current they are but they are very good indeed.

Hope this helps.

Snelly.

I couldn't float a chip with a bag full of balloons and a cannister of helium!!! :o I like my vokeys though I may get a different shaft this time. Last time I got the same as my irons (PX 5.5). Great for full shots but not as great around the greens as the DG wedge flex

I had two "Tour W" wedges, a 50 degree Gap and a 56 degree "Sand".
Loved them. Sold them along with my i15's a couple of weeks ago.
Just hope I get on with the Cobra's as well

3 x Tour W
Love 'em
Replaced 3 x Cleveland 588's that I had for 6 years a couple of years ago. The carry distance is unbelievably consistent on full shots which is why I carry 3, good feel around the greens too IMO. Make sure you consider the bounce options as this can make a difference.

I had 3 of these a couple of years back and they were very consistent.
They did have a bit more bounce than I like especially in the 50 degree.
Got the CC Vokeys now and they feel just fine

I have had a succession of Ping Tour W and S wedges and am currently using ANSER wedges - love the feel and personally prefer them to Vokey.
I particularly like my 58 Tour S (TS) Twin Sole which offers different bounce angle depending on open : close face at address.
