Hi all

I know drivers are a very personal thing and one persons ideal club is anothers nightmare. However I'm looking for a new club and the Ping G5 has caught my eye..

I currently have a Cobra 440sz (the legal version), 9deg stock stiff shaft. I get on well with this club, generally straight, fairly long and a slight draw but I'm looking for improved distance (aren't we all!) :D

I'm considering either the Ping G5 or a TM R7 425. in 9 deg and stiff shaft (I play in windy conditions!)

So - open the can of worms and stand back.

Any of you play with these clubs and what do you think for distance and accuracy etc?

I know I should try before I buy but I sometimes this is difficult unless your near a decent centre (I'm not) or not after the latest gear

G2,5 and 10 are all top notch.
If you want more distance...you could be disappointed...G5 doesn't seem as powerful as TM Superquad...but I've never got into ping stuff. I think the 460 Burner is pretty much designed for maximum distance.

There must be a few on here with G5s....

This is an independent review (from which?)

The Ping G5 is a very good club if you are highly skilled player – otherwise it’s best to steer clear and choose something else.

It gives excellent distance when you hit the ball from the centre of the club – in fact it’s pretty much unbeatable in this respect. However, if you’re not a consistent striker and you’re as likely to hit off centre, accuracy suffers quite a lot.

It has a wide variety of loft options – 7.5, 9, 10.5, 12 and 13.5 degrees and comes in Regular, Stiff and Extra Stiff.

It is quite striking to look at.

Pros: Excellent distance off the centre of the club.

Cons: Not a good choice unless you’re a very good player

Thanks for the review stuff - and I thought Which just did washing machines! (joke)

A superquad was another thought - just the potential cost on that one.

If you like Cobra stick with Cobra.

It's a valid point......I've used Callaway for years, and they suit me.

Ping players are probably the most loyal I know....can't blame them at all.

I use the G5, 10.5 and I find it very good very forgiving. It maybe not the longest driver about but I kid u not it has helped my handicap I'd rather be short and on the fairway than long and stuck behind tree's.
I tryed 2 of the G10's last week and found no difference, so I'm sticking with my G5 for now....

Good luck

I'm sure you are dead right. I also agree that a few yards off "max" is not a bad thing.
I didn't write the report, and also, being a genuinely good golfer (as you no doubt are) it's going to be plenty forgiving enough.
I think it is a great club and would, of course recommend it (as all ping stuff), thanks for your endorsement.
