Played today with a PP who has just bought a G30. My natural shot with my titleist 909 driver is a fade with a distance of anything between 200 /230. I'm a big believer in its not the equipment you use but how you use it, until today.
My PP let me have a crack with his new shiny G30 throughout the round and I was honestly surprised by its performance. My drives were straighter and I was hitting it consistently between 230/250. I know it's a bit pricey and am going to have to save if I want it, but before I do what is the opinions of the guys who have bought it, is it still the holy grail you hoped it would be or has it lost its appeal, any help and advice would be appreciated

Try before you buy would be my advice rather than trust one shot. The G series is very forgiving and I don't think there's a world of difference between the G25 and G30 and you may get the 25 version at a decent price.

I have a G30 and on average the dispersion is the best I've had out of a driver so far, but not massively better, just a bit. However it's not any longer off the tee than any other driver I've had before.

It's deffo an excellent driver and I have plenty of confidence when hitting it, but I don't believe it is signicantly better or easier to hit than many other current drivers.

I would try a few and see how you get on.

Thanks for the replies gents. Hit the G30 on every hole bar the par 3's and saw a difference in distance obviously as I wasn't fading the ball as I normally do thus being straighter off the tee. Was contemplating the G25 but was unsure if it was as low spinning as the G30. Will have to go try a few drivers at the range as suggested.

I've got a G30 for sale mate. It's in the for sale section if your interested.

Appreciate the heads up but unfortunately going to have to save some pennies first as we are on holiday in June and that's priority unfortunately 😔😔😔😔😔

I recently bought a G30 as a beginner as i found it the easiest to fit been using for a few months but just this Saturday I purchased a G30 3 wood and its the easiest club to hit in my bag so much that i feel my G30 driver is going to stay in the bag forever as I can hit the 3 wood so much more consistently with similar distance.

If you haven't got a 3 wood I would certainly suggest a G30 3 wood before taking the plunge on a G30 diver. G30 3 wood is currently £180

I have the SF Tec and it gives me a great ball flight, I love this driver, but it is is not silver bullet so if my swing lets me down I can slice this as good as any any other driver I have tried, but I have seen % of fairways hit increased dramatically since its been in the bag.

If it matters to you, I would say that the G30 has the most unpleasant sound of any of the current mainstream drivers. A nasty metallic 'tang'. Even pros hitting it out of the middle sound rubbish.

Might sound of no consequence, but I know a lot of players choose driver on the basis of the noise (read 'feel') because the performance of so many of them is very similar.

I've had the G25 and now (recently) have the G30 LS Tec.

If you're interested in the standard G30 and it fits you better get a G25. The G30 is a few yards longer but probably not enough to justify the difference in cost IMO.

If you struggle with spin on the G25 the LS Tec I can't recommend enough, I absolutely love mine. Pretty much as forgiving as the normal G30 but does what it says on the tin.

Re post above, I have to agree the G30 makes a horrendous noise but when I'm driving it the way I am with mine I don't give a monkeys!

I was going to mention about the noise that the G30 makes when hitting the ball, not very nice, I was using one today and yes it was much more forgiving than my Mizuno 850 but did not like the broken tin can sound it made on impact, I am going to try it again on Wednesday then make up my mind if I sell my 850 to buy the G30.

Was a bit worried about posting about the noise, as I realise it is subjective (although most of the people I play with have a similar opinion), so glad to see that even on GM, I am not alone...

I wonder why Ping did this? I'm pretty sure that all the OEMs tweak the sound that their drivers make, so they could have made them sound different if they had wanted to. Certainly the g10 and rapture v2 drivers sounded good.

Having stood behind a bunch of tour pros today hitting big sticks, I would say that the small headed shiney black callaway drivers sound the best (lovely thud), with the titleist coming in second.

I have been toying with getting the G30 since it was released and took the plunge and got an LS Tec. 3 rounds in and my god it has transformed my driving. My bad shot now is a draw instead of the big slice I was getting before. A good 10-20 yards further and consistently straight. I didn't see much difference in terms of flight (hit the ball very high) but it does penetrate the wind and the low spin gives me roll out.

I was worried that the LS version would maybe lose forgiveness against the standard but not seeing that so far.

I can't rate this driver highly enough. It has given me a bit more distance and consistency off the tee. I was a big hitter before it but being wild ruined my cards.

Genuinely (waiting for shouts of 'forum distance' but it is true) I have had to ease up my swing on a couple of our reachable par 4s as this was going throught the back. Maybe not perfect for everyone, and it might be worth trying the G25 and save some cash but I love the G30!

Have you thought about the K15? I played in a scramble last year with our two greenkeepers. One hits it a country mile but a tad wild. He lashed one down the 16th (needing 2 more drives in) and his brother, playing a K15 but not usually anywhere near as long as his brother, lashed his past it. Oh how I laughed as we had to pick up the second ball and walk BACK to where the first was.

Very impressed with the K15 !!!!!!!!

had a crack with one yesterday, couldn't hit the thing all i could do was scuff it along the ground.

That might have been that it was a left handed one and I'm right handed;)

...but just this Saturday I purchased a G30 3 wood and its the easiest club to hit in my bag so much that i feel my G30 driver is going to stay in the bag forever as I can hit the 3 wood so much more consistently with similar distance.

If you haven't got a 3 wood I would certainly suggest a G30 3 wood before taking the plunge on a G30 driver.
I agree with this post.
I bought Callaway X2 Driver and Hybrids prior to upgrading my Irons to Ping G30's.
I decided I should try some Woods and dipped my toe in the water with a G30 5 Wood. I liked it so much I decided to go for the G30 3 Wood too even though I had serious concerns about playing it off the Fairway.
The 3 Wood knocked chunks off my score though I still make the odd cock up by thinning it.

Where it has been great has been using it off the tee. I've recently found I'm hooking my Callaway Driver short whatever I do. I've starting using the Ping G30 3 Wood off the tee and my consistency has improved enormously. I'm not hitting as far as my best drives with a Driver but there's not much in it but I'm so much more consistent with it.
