The ball flight on my Ping Driver is too high for my liking, it seems to balloon too much. It's fitted with stock regular shaft TFC 169D, 10.5 degrees. I want a more penetrating flight with decent run.
I like the feel of the Ping and sound.
Has anyone experienced this and switched to another driver or indeed stayed with Ping but to one with a different shaft ?
The other issue with the G20 is the shaft is fixed to the clubhead and is not adjustable.

I love my G20 and get the desired flight out of the 10.5. Have you thought of trying the 9.5 in the same club?

Have a look at the G25 (budget permitting). A little more adjustable and not a world away from what you have. Try before you buy but you can lower the loft a bit to help the flight. I have stock shaft in mine without any flight issues

I've tried the G25 with stock shaft and it's a high flier as well, the tour shaft gives a lower launch or you may want to look at the Anser.
The adjustment on the ping is a waste of time anyway, who's going to notice 0.5 of a degree?

Try giving the i20 a whirl, brother has one and it is a bomber, more penetrating flight for sure just depends if your willing to sacrifice some forgiveness. Or as it sounds like you have no issues gettin it up so to speak, try a 8.5 in the G series and see how you get on.

Why do you need an adjustable shaft? Every driver I've had with an adjustable shaft (including current one) is always set neutral. If you think g20 goes high, wait to you hit a g25 in regular. I flirted with one briefly and it went into orbit. Least attractive Ping driver to my eye too. How about the Anser? Classy looking and will launch lower than either g20 or g25

Get a lesson first, if your angle of attack is too steep it will cause it to ballon. The g20 is still a strong driver that's favoured over newer versions but a lot of people

Try swaying a bit more and throwing your right shoulder into the equation, getting yourself ahead of the ball.
You'll lose a bit of distance and be the laughing stock of your mates, but your ball flight will be much lower.
Works for me

I was in an AG branch just after new year, and they had a G20 in regular in stock as a trade-in for £25. They also had a R1 in regular for £50.

With some money to burn and having fancied an adjustable driver, I bought the R1 over the non-adjustable G20... now thinking I may have made a mistake and should have bought the G20.

;)

Go check out a couple of potential upgrades, but take your G20 along as well. Getting Launch Monitor numbers could well demonstrate how little benefit the upgrades provide - or may point at an obvious change!

And check out the Pro-Tracer scenes on PGA. High flight is exactly what those guys are looking for.

So, unless you play a seriously windy or rock hard course, a high flight is actually better than a low one!

Another option is to go for a low launch/spin shaft like Diamana Whiteboard (and derivatives) or Matrix Black Tie. But a lesson with a 'shaft aware' Pro is probably best. He could well spot a simple adjustment that will solve your 'problem' and should be able to gauge/advise whether a shaft change is worthwhile.leases!

G20 is a seriously good club, that Ping have really only improved marginally in the 2 subsequent re

I use a G20 driver, 12.5* with stiff Serano shaft(option at the time). It's a fantastic club, good flight, distance, sound and shaft feel when it's timed right. Would never call it "ballooning".
