after seeing the thread last week of the fella playing with some old putters changing the finish etc i got it in my head i wanted to play too.. my taylormade daytona was white.. its not anymore!!

One thing i will say, the paint they use is amazing!! it chips if you clip the tiniest of stones, yet nitromors gets laughed at by it and it took some serious sanding to remove!!!

The finish is not brilliant, but i am having a knock tomorrow so had to halt work, also what has set me back is the stupid pure roll insert, i didnt want to remove it and potentially mess it up, so i worked round it. I have toyed with doing some blueing, but for now will go with the polished (ish) finish, as i said, its still rough around the edges, but has kept me amused! more work on it will continue, i plan to get the whole thing mirror finish, then i might blue it...

Nice work.

Nice work.

I was worried when i started!!! but then i would have just painted it black.. who knows! i have caught the driver on the car boot and it has a small mark which bugs me, i might paint them yellow..

Not happy with the putter yet, so many little nooks etc and the finish needs to be done by hand, so is gonna take me a while!!

It's a good little project that you can take your time over.

The driver would not get chipped if you left it in the bag!! :D

If, and it's a big if, it's steel, that will rust like a rusty thing.

If its ally, then ok, but it will still tarnish.

Titanium stays with a nice brushed finish. I've stripped titanium woods before.

Bluing is not easy, if you want a tidy result. Blued clubs still rust at the merest hint of moisture.

Good luck!

Good job rust is the new black:whoo:

That looks pretty dam good if I must say so!

Have you tried rubbing some Autosol into your new putter? It will give it a nice shine and polish it off nicely!

I think he'll be safe now till next summer!!! :( Scott - you have far to much time on your hands!

Need to get the sanding marks out first, working from 240 grit up to 1800 wet and dry, after that i will use a polishing mop with autosol and maybe some wirewool.

Played with it today and me like! i want it mirror finish though, its gonna take ages!!!

Uh oh! was not happy with the finish at all, was always gonna be a slow project, but today i decided to bite the bullet to get a decent finish on the face and remove the pure roll insert, i have been quite scared in doing this as i have not been able to find replacements for sale should i ruin it.. anyway, used the heat gun to soften the glue and got it out in one piece!

I was half tempted to do away with it and fill the hole with weld and polish it up, but i quite like the insert, so its cleaned up and to one side.

Also, wasnt happy with the look of the weights in black, so these have been polished up, think i am going to leave this like this and potentially go with red detailing...

Anyone that is thinking of doing this, just to put in perspective the time it takes to get a good finish i was on a conf call i have to sit on weekly but i never listen, so the weights below when already paint stripped just took me 1 hour... thats going from 180, 240, 400, 800, 1500 grit wet and dry, then wire wool with cutting compound, then finishing with polish and a polish tip on my dremel... good things come to those that wait! I have some really deep casting marks to remove on some bits and i have an really awkward hollow to do, not 100% how i am gonna do that bit yet, maybe a cut down lolly pop stick as a sanding block...
