Went and collected my fitted Mizuno JPX800HD's this evening and quickly scarpered off to the range to play 100 balls.
Happily, first impressions were the same as in the shop, lovely weight to it and looked welcoming upon address. Only downside was being able to see the back of the cavity on the short irons but once I stopped looking at it, it was fine
.
Shaft's are 0.5in longer than standard and my first thought was would I adjust naturally with the club in my hand. Took the wedge first, knowing at w/e I was hitting it 105 with my 17yr old wedge. Was delighted to hit it 115yds and then repeated consistently.
experienced similar for most the irons, in particular the 4iron which I hit like a gem with my first ball. I continued to strike it well and it was more pleasing with this as this is a club I've never really liked to hit. But, could I hit the 5iron.... Everything I hit was a mess, couldn't even muster 170 when I did manage to get it straight. Weird, but it just gives me greater desire to get it right.
Am now thinking about a lesson or two - if anyone can recommend a pro in or around the Bolton/Bury area I'd appreciate it. I read somewhere that the pro at Chilli-Dip in Horwich is good...but will happily drive further afield (or need, nearer).
