Went and collected my fitted Mizuno JPX800HD's this evening and quickly scarpered off to the range to play 100 balls.

Happily, first impressions were the same as in the shop, lovely weight to it and looked welcoming upon address. Only downside was being able to see the back of the cavity on the short irons but once I stopped looking at it, it was fine :D.

Shaft's are 0.5in longer than standard and my first thought was would I adjust naturally with the club in my hand. Took the wedge first, knowing at w/e I was hitting it 105 with my 17yr old wedge. Was delighted to hit it 115yds and then repeated consistently.

experienced similar for most the irons, in particular the 4iron which I hit like a gem with my first ball. I continued to strike it well and it was more pleasing with this as this is a club I've never really liked to hit. But, could I hit the 5iron.... Everything I hit was a mess, couldn't even muster 170 when I did manage to get it straight. Weird, but it just gives me greater desire to get it right.

Am now thinking about a lesson or two - if anyone can recommend a pro in or around the Bolton/Bury area I'd appreciate it. I read somewhere that the pro at Chilli-Dip in Horwich is good...but will happily drive further afield (or need, nearer).

In short, I don't. I've hit more balls in the last month than I have in the last 3 years. Played Harwood about 3 weeks ago on mi tod and have done 27 holes at Formby's par 3 course. Go to Regent Park range a lot at the mo. Was a Great Lever lad originally, now live in Bury.

Dont wanna upset the locals so here's the nasty 5i. I think the offending ball marks can still be made out. If they can I'm still a n00b so no embarrassment caused...

hopefully it's worked.

Just joins great lever myself have u seen the new offer on membership they have?? Chilli dips a good course too mate! Keep in touch if your ever short of a playing partner? What do you play off?

How mad. I used to go look for balls when I was a kid on G/L and flog em for extra pocket money! I still to this day have never played it, nearest I got was Royal Brackley in Little Hulton ;). Don't play off anything but reckon I'd be 20 at best currently.

I will second a recommendation for Phil at Chilli dip.

Great pro who can articulate exactly what you are doing wrong and help you to fix it

I could be the local loon from nearby K3 :D.

just looked up the membership online, seems dear to me as I can't imagine getting out 30 times in the year as it stands. The weekday membership would be appealing at a lesser price but £585 is dear for g/l. Or maybe I just don't know the going rate...

either way, I may take you up on that offer as I've always wanted to play there.

That as not been updated mate its £500 for 7 day membership and £300 for 5 day now mate seem to be doing it up too course in good nick these days! Off to chilli dip for a lesson tomorrow ill let you know how phil is for lessons but I got 3 hr ones for £105
